Toronto Mayor John Tory: “We could live quite well without [guns] in Toronto, legal or illegal”

David MenziesMission Specialist

Before placing flowers at the memorial for the victims of Sunday's mass shooting on the Danforth, Toronto Mayor John Tory addressed a resident concerned about the rise in gun violence in the city.

Tory responded that tackling the illegal trafficking of firearms was a priority.

When asked by The Rebel's David Menzies why Tory and others at City Hall also seem to be willing to go after legal handgun owners, too, Tory replied that he doesn't believe that anyone needs to own a handgun in the city, legally or otherwise.

Can someone explain why when the Toronto Maple Leafs were winning Stanley Cups on a regular basis in the 1960s, Canadian firearms control laws were quite casual and were accompanied by much lower rates of violent crime, including homicide, in Toronto and the rest of this country. What changed?

What does that have to do with legitimate gun owners?
Your problem, Mayor Tory, is the criminals in Toronto. Where are they coming from, what is making them criminals and what [zero tolerance!?] policies are being implemented by Toronto………..or do you simply chalk up every murder committed by a non-Caucasian to mental illness?
Sounds like TO needs more psychiatrists than police.

With all the shootings and murders over the last few years in Toronto, it’s more than obvious that one needs a gun in Toronto more than ever just to protect himself.

In terms of needing a firearm in Toronto, it seems to me private citizens need to arm themselves more than ever given the failures of John Lefty and Ralphy Boy Goodale in dealing with crime and terrorism in Toronto. A good guy with a gun would have been very welcome that night on the Danforth.

Mayor John lefty is wrong about 50% of guns used in crime being purchased from legal gun owners. This piece of fake news has been debunked by the Canadian Sport Shooters Association. The 50% figure is related only to the number of guns THAT CAN BE TRACED by the authorities which is a subset of the total number of guns involved in crime. If Lefty is going to spout off about firearms, he should get his facts straight.
