Four Jewish youth were attacked and robbed earlier this week in the heart of a Toronto Jewish neighbourhood in what some have described as a swarming that included up to 20 assailants.
Toronto police are investigating it as a hate crime based on the anti-Semitic epithets and slurs that were levelled against the young men by those who were beating and robbing them.
The victims were reportedly told that “Hitler was coming back,” as they were being punched and kicked on the ground.
Toronto Mayor John Tory, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer, and Toronto police Chief Mark Saunders, have all renounced this hate crime.
On the flip side, Prime Minister Fancy Socks has tweeted nothing about this.
This silence is especially odd since we have a Prime Minister who, at the best of times, doesn’t know when to shut his blabbering mouth.
Four young men, two wearing kippahs and two wearing Orthodox fedoras, were obviously in the wrong religious headwear. Apparently, if you want a response from the PMO, and you want it fast, you better be wearing a hijab!
On its face, the lack of acknowledgment of this hate crime from the Prime Minister should seem out of place, given that the Liberals have just issued a very public apology to the Jewish Community for the Canadian government turning away the MS St. Louis in 1939.
These big government apologies are easy though. They allow the Liberals to hang the responsibility for their past misdeeds around the necks of all Canadians, even though it was a Liberal PM’s decision to turn away a boat of Jewish refugees to certain death.
However, in modern Canada, the Liberals are often silent about anti-Semitism, and even worse, they are endorsing it with Canadian tax dollars.
Today I’ll take you through a few examples.
I'm happy that Justin Trudeau apologized for turning away the MS St. Louis although I resent the whitewashing of his own party’s culpability in that unimaginable tragedy.
But, if the Liberals continue to turn a blind eye to anti-Semitism within their own party and on the streets of Toronto, and keep funding it with Canadian tax dollars, we’re going to be issuing more apologies in future for a Liberal PM’s treatment of Jewish people today.
