Trudeau advisor Gerald Butts' "green" energy policies cost Ontario 300,000 jobs -- admits liberal think tank

Brian LilleyArchive

Political choices have real world consequences and Ontario residents are now seeing that play out as more jobs leave the province over sky high electrical rates.

When you look at what is happening, and who caused it, you need to worry about Ontario's disease spreading to the rest of Canada if Justin Trudeau wins the next election.

Goodyear's most efficient plant was recently forced to shut down and move to Mexico, taking Ontario jobs with it.

Why is Ontario manufacturing crumbling?

Even a liberal think tank places the blame on the "green" energy policies pushed on the province by Gerald Butts, who's now one of Justin Trudeau's top advisors.

I was directed here from a link from a recent story and just saw Mike Archibald’s comment below for the first time. “You think a couple hundred wind turbines is what massively increased hydro?”

Well Mike, the OLP’s deal with Samsung alone for just some of those turbine’s was $7B dollars. That’s just for equipment. Imagine what the land lease deals, foundation construction and installation is worth? Now add in all the crazy solar deals they made at 10 times the rate hydro and nuclear costs to produce. You really think the GEA had no impact on our bills? You low info Liberal apologists are too easy to ridicule.

What a lachrymose arse.

Greenism is the new communism. It is a cause which justifies violating people’s rights in the sick minds of the believers. It destroys wealth just like the old communism did. It is accepted on faith just because someone said so. It is time to nip this
new danger in the bud and vote out the freaks who insist on forcing this crap on up.

In the summer of 2003, just before Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals gained power in Ontario, Ontario’s electricity prices were 4.3 cents per kWh and delivery costs added 1.5 cents per kWh. An additional charge of 0.7 cents ( known as the debt retirement charge to pay back Ontario Hydro’s legacy debt of $7.8-billion brought on by the Rae and Peterson governments subsidizing big hydro users like TO and Dofasco) — brought all included costs to the average consumer of 6.5 cents per kWh. The McGuinty Liberals claimed the province’s electricity sector was in a mess when they took over in 2003 they said they were going to “fix this”. That was Lib-speak for their intention to directly interfere in energy markets and production.

11 years of Liberal electric energy mismanagement later , Ontario electricity costs average over 9 cents per kWh, delivery costs 3 cents per kWh or more, the 0.7-cent debt retirement charge is still being charged, plus a new 8% provincial sales tax. Additional regulatory charges take all-in costs to well over 15 cents per kWh. The increase in the past 10 years averaged over 11% annually and is now 3 times higher than when the Liberals took charge. Those are E-Energy increases unparalleled in Ontario history and costs which make Ontario one of the 3 highest energy costs jurisdictions in North America.

There is NOTHING about “privatization” in this chain of events. Government direct intervention in the e-energy markets and production regulating (married to a calamitously inane “green” agenda) caused this. This was the result of McGuinty-Wynn government energy policy – a policy Mr. Butts was largely responsible for.

Give your head a shake if you think otherwise and watch the train wreck he makes of the Trudeau energy policy. Ontario voters remember the sting of Liberal “green” policy every time the electric bill arrives.

Uh, doesn’t EVERYBODY know that it was privatization of power generation which resulted in massive hydro increases? If you are going to have a story, at least have a link to what the heck you are talking about. You think a couple hundred wind turbines is what massively increased hydro??

Let it be said that the 300,000 good paying manufacturing jobs lost have been created again as good paying Ontario government jobs used to police small and medium sized businesses. This way the liberal government can guarantee there will be no jobs at all in this province. A balanced budget by 2017-18 is not close to possible, but they don’t care because they will be re-elected because the only employer in this province will be the provincial government. I hope all the progressives have taken the mandatory course in making their own lattee’s.

And Ken, this Liberal gov’t has built several gas plants, between them and the nuclear plants (I worked for OPG), that is what has replaced the
coal-fired plants power not the solar and wind which is only responsible for about 4% of our power output, but 56% of our cost increase.

And so the bleed continues, and the reason Michigan is getting the Camaro is because they are buying our Hydro from us for 2.5 cents per KWH,
now who’s the dummies….

Kevin – good link, I wonder if the two boomer geezers agonizing about CO2 realize that this may just save us from disaster as we go into our decades long cooling cycle due to zero sun spot activity. None the less, there will be some species which cannot adapt to a greener or colder world and will start going extinct – so Gerry Butts will have a job pointlessly trying to prevent these inevitable extinctions after he crashes the Trudeau 4 PM train.

I am working on a project at Toyota Manufacturing. It is a co heat/engergy facility powered by natural gas. Toyota is getting away from Wynne’s environmental green cash grab. If it is feasible and economic for Toyota to produce heat and hydro with gas why not for the rest of Ontario…possibly Canada?
commented 2015-04-30 18:01:04 -0400
Look, hydro rates are going to have to triple and the last manufacturing plant is going to have to close before Ontario voters get it. Even then, I’m not optimistic.

Gerry Butts – there’s a name that will for forever more be associated with epic failure of official policy solutions. As a conservationist myself, who has put many hours and dollars into true wildlife conservation, I can tell you that the organization Butts ran (World Wildlife Fund Canada) did NOT have conservationist policies/ideologies – they have become through policy shift, PRESERVATIONISTS – and there is a world of difference. And it’s why the WWF started losing corporate revenues when it went from a conservation effort to a UN environmental preservationist (see “un eco-preserves”) policy tool.

Conservationists manage wildlife and environments for responsible human utilization and sustainability. Preservationists ban the use of natural resources and believe that all should remain as it is- untouched and pristine. Of course where this preservationist ideal of wildlife and habitat fails is that they fight extinctions and habitat change when static environments are of course unnatural and unsustainable because environments are constantly changing naturally, sometimes rapidly and violently, and extincting the species which relied on them if that species cannot adapt to the new environment. The ground right under Gerry’s own desk once supported Mammoths, giant sloths, saber-tooth tigers and a dozen different antelopes which are all extinct now – but Preservationists excuse these glaring rips in their narrative as being “before industrial man”.

99.% of all species that have ever lived are extinct and the same for the habitats which supported these extinct species – all before we had discovered fire. Even Darwin (who the green cult worship) premised his theory on the fact that extinction is as natural as adaptive mutation. So what preservationists strive to do is reverse the natural cycles of environmental change, extinction and adaptation. Big epic fail on that.

Where am I going with this? Well, if you marry the narrow-minded nescient ideology of preservationist environmentalism to global socialist politics you end up with a real big economic-social cluster frig. Errant idealism meets goose-stepping mono-policy politics. The concept that hydro electricity production is finite and non renewable is just pure BS. – like preservationist ideology. No wonder Ontario is swimming in debt and deficient in electric energy production in the midst of bounty. Only extremely faulty logic can produce results like this. So, when I heard Butts had attached himself to the Trudeau gravy train, I went out and bought some beer and pop corn and decided to sit down and watch the train wreck.

“…better the devil you know…” That’s why people will support Trudeau Jr. The mainstream media has a hate-on for anything conservative and responsible, and the rest of the parties play on people’s emotions and “rights”. If Trudeau Jr were to promise the people of Canada a rebate check of $x/mo, he’d have a majority. (And people wonder how Wynne got into power. Hudak told people the truth, and Wynne played off their emotions… with the active co-operation of the media.)

The BC Liberal government recently announced expansion of Wind Turbine installs. The big question…Why? BC electrical is mostly supplied by hydro electric with more hydro dams being developed in the North and we have huge reserves of LNG. The Wind Turbine farms are privately owned and this direction makes absolutely no sense unless politicians and friends are making huge kickbacks. Every time I see illogicals like Geralds Butt I wonder who is “following the money”?

I hope you are right Joan. I am not sure I want to live in a Canada that is run by the boy child Justine. I think it will lead to the ruin of our great country. Just as the McWynnty government has destroyed Ontario.

Time for the taxpayer to leave Ontario and take their tax money with them. What will Wynne and her cohorts have to spend then? Oh, I forgot! They will be crying to the federal government for increased transfer payments, and, the taxpayer will end up paying anyway!
