I was delighted to see this press release from the Prime Minister’s office. Screaming heading: "Prime minister announces action on Alberta wildfires.” OK, finally. It’s been more than a week.
What's his plan?
"The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the creation of a new ad hoc Cabinet committee to coordinate federal efforts to help the thousands of Canadians affected by the wildfires that raged through Northern Alberta in May of 2016.”
Great. A committee of politicians. To coordinate efforts. More than a week after the emergency, when most of the urgent work has already been done.
But hang on. There already IS a cabinet committee for public emergencies.
Oh, and Justin Trudeau himself is its chair.
That committee has been operating for months — we think. Who knows — maybe Trudeau had to cancel, because he was doing an important boxing demonstration, or holding a push up contest...
