Trudeau Liberals deny tax break to troops: Soldiers in ISIS fight “not facing sufficient danger”

Brian LilleyArchive

There’s a popular bumper sticker among military backers that says, “If you won’t stand behind our troops feel free to stand in front of them”. Of course standing in front of them might put you in danger because we ask our military to stand between us and any threats we may face at home and abroad - like ISIS.

So why then is the Trudeau Liberal government taking money away from Canadian soldiers stationed in Kuwait who are part of the fight against ISIS?

This started last fall when 15 soldiers at an American military base called Camp Arifjan were told they would not get the usual tax breaks given to military personnel on overseas missions because the military said they weren’t facing sufficient danger to warrant the tax break.

Sure they were part of the fight against ISIS, sure they were stationed overseas for six months or more and sure they had been expecting that tax break, but a bureaucrat sitting at a comfy desk back in Ottawa determined they were not eligible for this tax break which can mean up to $9,000 over the course of a tour.

The soldiers complained and fought to get it back. Conservative MP James Bezan raised the issue and questioned Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan back on December 1 and thought it had been settled in the soldier’s favour.

It sounded like Sajjan was on side with the soldiers which is where I would expect him to be, but no.

The Trudeau Liberals and bureaucrats at the Department of National Defence decided to screw over more soldiers so instead of those 15 getting the tax break reinstated, it will be taken away from another 300.

Now you may be wondering why soldiers should be given a tax break that you don’t get?

Simple answer is, it’s a temporary tax break we give to them when we ask them to go anywhere with a raised level of risk - away from home. These are the people willing to take a bullet for you and offering a tax break so that the time away from hearth and home is a bit more lucrative should not be too much to ask.

But instead of fixing a small problem with a small number of soldiers, Trudeau and the Liberals made this bigger.

They can’t just pawn this off on payroll clerks at DND. This was a problem they knew about and in his answer, Minister Sajjan mentioned the finance minister and the treasury board - so three departments, three ministers were aware of what they knew to be a politically sensitive file and instead of fixing it, they made it worse.

I have no doubt of Minister Sajjan’s commitment to the troops and to our military, but I do question the commitment of the government he is serving in to the military.

It was well known that Justin Trudeau’s father didn’t like the military and reduced their funding in the middle of the cold war. Trudeau junior shows the same tendencies.

I expect this will get “fixed” after a public outcry and the government will say it was an error and they honour the troops.

Don’t believe that lie if and when it comes and instead remember their first instinct when they thought no one was watching was to screw over the soldiers.

Maybe Sajjan will take this as a hint that he is only Defense Minister because he wears a turban which looks good when he is beside Baby Doc on Remembrance Day for the photo-op. But I doubt it. He likely has the same virtue as his other immaculated co-brethren of the military in senior positions, Leslie and Garneau. Best to shut up and collect the good 6 digit salary.

His comrades in arms must be sorely disappointed at his lack of honour.

Anonymous, ya ever try to run your mouth in a face to face? Take some video, I’d like to see the out come.

I once was confronted by a unwashed long hair in the Vancouver airport, he called me a baby killer. Funny thing was that I didn’t have to say anything, the people within ear shot sure did though. Betcha that fella, today is a pro-choice kinda guy that doesn’t bat an eye at dead babies.

Every great nation has a strong military . In Canada our our " leaders " would sooner waste money on stupid sh*t like so called " refugees " , carbon scams and the list is endless . A village idiot could do a better job ! Our tax money should be spent on Canadians and if you want to help people in other countries maybe help them in there own country . Trudeau for treason !!!!

Hey c’mon everyone, give the government a break here!
Don’t you understand that with the rapefugee program and the overhauling of ministerial offices and the PM’s residence that there is no money left in the coffers to help out our soldiers?
Hell, they need all that money to pay for the traveling expenses for DumbShit Trudeau and his fellow trough feeders.
Again, let me appeal to all good citizens of this country to pony up and send Dumb Shit Trudeau more money so he can waste it.
We could also approach the agha Khan for a handout since Canada is now a have not country wallowing in the deepest debt per capita than any other country in the world.
Perhaps when the revolution starts, our soldiers may have better things to do than to defend the likes of our current government.

Dump Justin Trudeau

Anonymous… All what you say maybe true but the fact remains that the tax break was part of the contract and the liberals as well as the foreigner that’s in charge of our military are not holding up their end of a prearranged agreement….
It will not take long if it’s not done already for the word to travel through the military, take those numbers multiply them by at least three and that’s what you have for a voting base against little puta’s reelection bid.
let the foreigner and lil puta dig their own hole to lie down together in.

Trudeau seems to be on a roll pissing people off on a daily basis. Add 315 more who just had their morale killed, not to mention their family back home who probably made financial commitments. Well done Justhin you loser.

Soldiers are not special, and they should not be given tax breaks. There are a lot of dangerous and overall undesirable jobs out there, but people in those positions aren’t given tax breaks. Have you ever met soldiers? The majority of them are assholes. They love to go on power trips, act like what they are doing is saving the world, and never shut up about how civilians should conform to the military standards.

In the military this. In the military that. God does it get old fast.

If you are a soldier and you want a tax break, SHUT THE FUCK UP! If you are stupid enough to sign up for the military, then I laugh at your suffering, especially if it is over not getting a tax break.

After having enough exposure to military people, I now choose not to wear a poppy around remembrance day.

Lawrence O’Byrne, remember our whopping $35.00 a month extra for deployment pay? Uncle Pierre was such great boss, here kid, here’s 35 bucks, go roll around in the mud and the blood, and try not to get shot, the paper work pisses off the bureaucrats.

Trudeau should be sent out on a patrol with our Troops in the fight against ISIS. Let him take a little Flack. The fucking scumbag would end up with tears and soiled pants.

All he is doing is taking away the fighting spirit that is necessary on a battlefield, if you want to win.

Trudeau is on the side of ISIS.

Fuck You Trudeau you piece of shit.

Sorry for the language, but when you are out on the front line, you do not need things like Trudeau.

Junior takes after daddy, he has a distaste for all things military and has never served. He relies on others to do his fighting for him and fails to support them when they do.
