The State of the Union is strong; the State of the Democrat Party is perilous. You see, on Tuesday night Donald Trump seized the center, planting his flag right in the middle of the body politic where US elections are decided.
We saw Nice Donald, Unity Donald, the Donald of Kids with Cancer and War Heroes, focused on what we can do together while also arguing for (mostly) center-right policies that will appeal to the swing voters that Blustery Donald alienated.
We conservatives are OK with that; we'll take 90% of what we want over 0%.
Those suburban squishes who traded in their moderate Republicans for Moderate Democrats because Trump tweets mean stuff? They are not digging the 70% tax rate and losing their health insurance talk, nor are they down with killing actual babies.
Democrats have a real problem - no freedom of action, while Trump has no such concern - and that's how he's seized the vital center!
