"He's going to be the next president": Trump's Fox News debate boycott "is the most brilliant move of the campaign"

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

Fox News Channel is the natural home of conservatives and Republicans, so it’s curious to some people why Donald Trump has been picking fights with them, to the point where he's said he's boycotting their next televised GOP debate.

Instead he's going to host an event in Iowa to raise money for the Veterans and Wounded Warriors.

Say, do you doubt that every other cable news station is going to carry Trump’s Iowa pep rally?

And that they’ll get higher ratings than the official Fox debate?

But Trump is thinking about the next step.

Some polls show 20% of Democrats would cross over to support Trump.

I totally believe that — he’s not a die-hard Republican; he seems fresh and independent; but mainly, for the first time since Reagan, you have a truly inspiring candidate in the eyes of non-political people.

And what better way to appeal to moderate Democrats than to show he’s independent of Fox News, by punching them in the nose?

(PS: Can you imagine if the United States had had a president with these kind of strategic negotiating skills these past eight years?)

The appeal of Donald Trump is that he does not walk on eggshells, as society has forced all of us to do. People support the war on political correctness, and Trump seems to be the only one to take the lead on it.

Oh I hope your wrong, it would be a disaster for the USA which doesn’t need another bad deal.

The more the left wingers in the US and in Canada hate Trump, the more I know he is the correct choice for US President.

Yup, he is bombastic. Yup, he is egotistical. Yup, he says his mind. Yup, he is a refreshing change to the mealy mouthed, lying, compromising politicians we have today. I hope we get a Trump type in Canada to do the same, shake up the political system.

I think your assessment is spot on Ezra. I marvel that so many pundits and senior politicos are befuddled by Mr. Trump’s success in this race. It shows how utterly out of touch they are with the electorate and how much the country desperately needs a political change. I’ve never been a fan of Mr. Trump but he’s doing an excellent job of convincing me that not only does the US need him in the White House but we in Canada need him too.

Mr. Trump strategy trumped Fox News, the media and all the other candidates. Sorry I just couldn’t resist that!

Any one who compares Trump to Hitler (however subtle) has automatically lost he argument. He is an anti-establishment guy and has the influence to bring democratic votes to the republican side… the republicans will soon see this and agree to help him along. The only thing he should be careful of is thinking too far ahead; one step at a time Don.

He has New York Values (for abortion and homosexuality). Not a conservative.
He always talks about money. Proverbs 6:16-19) There are seven things that the Lord hates and cannot tolerate. A proud look, a lying tonue, hands that kill innocent people, a mind that thinks up wicked plans, feet that hurry off to do evil, a witness who tells one lie after another, and a man who stirs up trouble among friends.

I certainly do not share this analysis. I too gave Trump more than one pass for his ’ initial’ misspeaking or irresponsible exaggeration…but I have now discovered that he is a ‘crhonic’ delusional political and geopolitical ignoramus lacking all credentials ( except those of being a charlatan) to become a president or leaders of people. He might represent, like Hitler, the angry voices of America…and even arrive at making this idiotic point that ’ he could shoot ANYBODY and still have his loyal (KKK) people with him’…IMAGINE…what do you expect from such an ‘asshole’ if elected president? PS. not to mention his take on ‘colleaugues’, his insulting and bullying about women, handicapped, Mexican, Muslims, etc, etc. EZRA…wake up…and don’t be blinded by ‘rage’ and ’ smoke’.

Anyone who thinks President Trump is a good thing is a complete moron. Just 2 examples. Trump supports Michael Mann over Mark Steyn because he hates National Review – Trump is against free speech (see steynonline.com). Trump says Canada should pay a yuuge tariff for the Keystone pipeline to be completed. So if you are against free speech and against free trade then I guess Trump is your man.

To my list of Trump’s more troubling traits, add marital infidelity and being a progressive capitalist both of which he has admitted to. He’s also denied doing or saying things which he obviously did or said, so also add “liar” to the list.

On marital infidelity read this: http://is.gd/oesK0D
Apparently he’s a big fan of Bill Clinton style of morality. He claims to be big with evangelicals. If so, they’re cutting him a lot of slack.

And on his being a progressive capitalist, he’s admitted to backing many of the worst progressive policies (from abortion to bailing out banks). He now says he was just doing business with Democrats. Even if you believe him, that still makes him a capitalist not of the best kind, but of the worst – a rent-seeking crony capitalist.

So, for those who are betting Trump might be good for America, that bet comes with a hell of a lot of risk.

Woah Paul Belanger, calm down, you are going to burst a blood vessel or worse, have an aneurism. Having all that anger will give you high blood pressure.
Second, with regards to Brooke Sammon that is nothing new, that conflict of interest has been known for a while now. And if someone as an “uninformed whiner” like me knew about it, is safe to say that Trump knew it from the get go and he didn’t seem to have a problem with it then.
Third, as you pointed out and rightly so, Trump uses the Megan K. angle as a front; which (a) makes him a liar and not a straight shooter as he proclaims to be and (b) he uses Megan K. as a shield which neither portrait him as presidential or gentleman like. However, I disagree on your conclusion as to why Trump uses this as an excuse; I think the real reason is because he doesn’t want to debate Cruz. Trumps know he can not win a debate against Cruz so he uses whatever tricks he can to undermine Cruz and the voter too (I guess that is The Art of the Deal).
To sum-up on why I think it is so ridiculous to have Trump as a GOP nominee and a potential presidential candidate is this:
The people who support the Grand Old Party in the USA are always concerned that there is no conservative policies being passed or that one can not remember the last time the GOP House and/or Senate stood for conservative values against the progressives and Obama. Another concern is that government is too big and that there are too many deals happening in Washington. So what is the answer from some of these supporters?! Elect a non-conservative who likes big government and loves making deals….aka Trump……if that is not irony, I don’t what is….

In this case, I am inclined to lead towards Ezra’s point of view. Donald strategizes and reacts like a business man, not a politician. While some are calling him thin-skinned and characterizing him as the type of kid in the playground that takes the ball away if you don’t play by his rules, I see it as him just doing exactly what he said he was going to do. When you draw a line in the sand, you have to be prepared to back it up. He didn’t like the situation, FOX didn’t respond to his demands, so he did his own thing. Maybe it was for the best. I think for any serious conservative in the US, last night’s debate gave everyone the opportunity to watch the other candidates without the sideshow of Trump.

I think the United States needs Donald Trump more now than any other president before him !! They need a President that is beholding to no one, not to Saudis Arabia, not to the Muslim Brotherhood, not to Iran, not North Korea, and not to the rich elite of this corrupt world !! A fearless leader that is truly independent !! A new strong, smart, and successful person !! Who got there on there own Merritt !! A President that will upset the worm infested apple cart so full of rotten old apples !! You can be sure the old gang of corrupt politicians are very much afraid of him and what he might do to make America Great Again !! Donald Trump is not a progressive pansy ass kisser !! Donald Trump is not a Racist like the current Administration !! There is a lot of things Trump is but I think he will be the President that will turn the tide in America. The United States has a long way to go to get to where they were before the disaster of the Bush and Obama Presidencies !! But at this point I believe Donald Trump is the start of Making America Great Again !!

Trump is different, all right – a mix of many traits, good and bad. He’s a brilliant (just ask him), successful, independent, narcissistic, bellicose, whiny, demanding, rude, thin-skinned jerk. But for all that, he may be just what America (and the world) needs right now, to reverse the Obama debacle.

I hope he gets the nomination and wins the presidency – if for nothing else just to watch the limp Trudeau deal with him and vice versa (recognizing that this could be to Canada’s detriment) .

Trump will go to Washington and make deals. I don’t think there’s been a lack of deals made with liberals.
CRUZ will go to Washington and kick the doors in.

I find it hypocritical of all the leftist trolls showing up in this feed decrying the fact that Trump is only speaking in platitudes, when that is what got your fan boy elected as PM in Canada. All style, no substance usually wins.

I also agree with many of the posts regarding Mr. Trump. When he first entered the race I found him interesting and agreed with several of his positions, but no longer. Like John Bossy’s post, I find him petulant, also a bully who probably can be described as a big time narcissist. Right now America needs a true conservative and a strong constitutionalist, neither of which describe Trump in my opinion. Yes, America needs to be great, but I think the Donald is more concerned with his own greatness.
commented 2016-01-28 15:56:21 -0500
Ezra, you forgot one other part of justifying his absence from tonight’s Fox GOP debate. It was the Fox press release which cinched and validated his absence: Fox News responded in a statement given to Mediaite, saying:
“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.” Them’s fighting words!
commented 2016-01-28 15:32:01 -0500
I usually stand with Ezra on most issues but not on this one. I find Trump petty and dishonest. I doubt he has any real idea of how government works. I hope I’m wrong because he may well win.

Zaid said
“If Trump has been trigger by Megan K. micro-aggression; he should go to his safe space and drop out of the race…. "

That’s only a front trump has used to bring attention to the FOX news conflict of interest now coming to light.
Check the Brooke Sammon fiasco in the Rubio campaign. When you have only ideologically based opinions to foment it is best to stay quiet, now you appear as only one of the uninformed whiners with an axe to grind.

Donald is the very last thing America needs. What anyone who likes Trump has to do is Wikipedia “Donald J Trump” and read what his track record is and what he has stood for his whole life. He has filed bankruptcy 4 times, he has been unfaithful to all his wives and he is a Democrat. He silences all his critics through intimidation or the lawsuit method. Why would a Conservative sell their principles down the river on somebody SAYING " I will make America great again"??? He will scoff and mock the very people that vote for him ONCE he is elected! He never says WE will make America great; he is the true definition of a man who has only one love on this earth and that is the fellow staring back at him in the mirror. To put him in charge of a nuclear arsenal is more dangerous than giving the Iranians a nuclear warhead! What this has proven about the USA is that they have allowed a loud mouth bully to convince them that he is their saviour. He only needs and likes them now until he is elected and then they will be sneered at the way he always has done.

“Life is something like a TRUMPet. If you don’t put anything in, you won’t get anything out.” “The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can’t blow an uncertain TRUMPet.” “If you wish in this world to advance your merits you’re bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own TRUMPet, Or, trust me, you haven’t a chance.”
Bravo to Donald Trump for standing his ground!

Trump is a left wing corporate capitalist progressive with fascistic tendencies. Plus he’s a bully. He spends his time name calling his fellow candidates instead of talking about actual issues that effect that country., and his lemming supporters eat it up. Now he talks about how he can make deals and negotiate with the very people who made the mess down there in the first place and his lemming supporters adjust their positions and philosophies to accommodate his. As far as I’m concerned a choice between Clinton,Sanders or Trump isn’t a choice at all. I’d vote third party. As far as I’m concerned if the US elects Trump,Sanders or Clinton the US is finished as a free nation with no turning back.
One thing I’ll say about Trump is that he certainly has divided the real conservatives from the ones who think they’re conservative.
