Turkey's Erdogan demands less freedom of speech in Germany

Victor LaszloRebel Commentator

Turkey, not content with having one of the worst records for freedom of speech and one of the highest record for journalists in jail for a democracy, called the German Ambassador in over a German music video pointing out his treatment of woman and the press.

On March 22, Turkey's Foreign Ministry summoned German Ambassador Martin Erdmann over the above video according to Spiegel Magazine.

One wonders if more influence and integration from the Islamic world will mean greater freedom of speech and conscience for them, or greater and greater restrictions on what our own people can say on their own forums such as Facebook, in public, and what religious criticisms will be tolerated across the formerly free world of the Enlightenment.

Personally I think the jury is back on that. People just won't read or believe the verdict.

Turkey is also in the news recently for jailing more of its own journalists, Police raids on news organizations, and massive amounts of complicity with the Islamic State.

Israel tells its citizens to leave Turkey now

This is in the wake of an attack by the Islamic State within Turkey, that appeared to be specifically targeting Israelis.

Also in the news this week, Islamic State suspected of planning imminent major attacks against Jewish public schools within Turkey.

Intelligence source cited by Sky News says concrete threat to Istanbul synagogue and community center, after Turkey and Israel both warn of increased danger for Jews and Israelis

Islamic State terrorists are planning an imminent attack on Jewish kindergartens, schools and youth centers in Turkey, according to a report by Britain-based Sky News Monday.

Given the clear and well documented complicity between the Islamic State and Turkey, there are questions that really should be more forcefully placed in the public space.

I was speaking with a co-worker this morning, who hails from Russia. He just returned from a visit with his mother. He said that while he was there, he saw oil truck after oil truck, so he asked his friends where the oil was coming from, and they told him that it’s coming from ISIS, and other countries too. Isn’t that interesting?

I was in Turkey in 1984, and it was quite an eye-opener! In Istanbul there were hundreds of children begging in the streets. Very young children and those who were crippled and destitute. What bothered me the most, was seeing such sadness in the eyes of children so young. They had no joy in there eyes, and it was like they were caged in misery. I find it haunting to this day!
