University professor gives students extra credit to determine their level of 'white privilege'

StaffRebel Columnist

Professor Dae Elliott at San Diego State University is doing her part to make sure Donald Trump gets reelected.

The sociology professor gave students a “White Privilege Checklist” with 20 questions that attempt to illustrate that “racial privilege is one form of privilege”.

According to The College Fix, some of the ridiculous questions are: “I can be late to a meeting without having the lateness reflect on my race”, “I can choose blemish cover or bandages in flesh color and have them more or less match my skin” and “I can easily by (sic) posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys and children's magazines featuring people of my race”.

In addition to “white privilege”, students were also made aware of privilege in “gender, sexual orientation, class, and religion”.

Students were told by Professor Elliott to add up their scores. A higher score meant they had a high level of privilege and a lower score meant they had a lower level of privilege.

Finally, to earn the extra credit, students were told to answer the following questions: “Were you surprised by your score, or did it confirm what you already knew? Why is privilege normally invisible and what does it feel like to make it visible? Do you think this exercise is different for white students than for students of color? For black students than for Asian, Indian, Latino/a students, or other students of color?”

Not everyone thought the assignment was a good idea. San Diego State University College Republicans President Brandon Jones said, “This is another attempt by the Left, and Professor Elliot, to divide America.”

“The Left’s political goal is to ensure that minorities in America perpetuate that their primary problem is white racism. This only furthers the portrayal of minorities in America as victims and does nothing to help contribute to their advancement in society,” Jones added.

What do you think? Do you agree with Brandon Jones? Let us know in the comments.

It might actually be interesting to see the results of these assignments, assuming, of course, we know the race, religion, etc. of the students and can cross-reference it to their answers. There is, of course, the issue of all the people with a mixed identity such as the disabled, Black Eurasian, conservative lesbian mechanical engineer of Catholic and Jewish Mid-West parents, one of whom used to be a man but now identifies as a woman. I, for example, am a Caucasian-looking Metis but I’ve never felt like people would ascribe my tardiness to meetings to anything but me being late. Was that my “white privilege” or maybe it was me keeping “Indian time” or was it my “male privilege” or my Christian sense of entitlement in a primarily Judeo-Christian country – or something else? But leaving aside these outliers it might be interesting to see how the students responded and how that correlates with their various identities. It could well be that the results would not be what the good professor thinks they should be.

In other words, Elliott was trying to show that whites are privileged and therefore racist by the fact that they are white and everything is just given to them. Everyone else is oppressed and therefore have reason to hate whites (which is racism in of itself).

A ridiculous exercise aimed at separating the members of the class as privileged racists/unprivileged racists. The non-white now can claim anything the whites do as privileged, including if they get better grades – which I have a feeling the prof will bell curve down by colour.

Is this a sociology course or Marxism 101?

Oh yes, the prof: what colour, race, creed is Elliott?

This class should be renamed Victimology 101 , a required course to graduate with a degree in Snowflake Studies.

You must have to take a extra year in school to become a PROFESSOR.

These activist teachers need to be removed and placed in a psych ward, or maybe in a jail for inciting hatred against a specific race.

It’s not about “privilege”, its demographics and free market.
If you’re in a country like China or Nigeria, your products reflect the majority population when manufacturers deem a profit is to be made in catering to said population.
The alt-left is whacked
