Professor Dae Elliott at San Diego State University is doing her part to make sure Donald Trump gets reelected.
The sociology professor gave students a “White Privilege Checklist” with 20 questions that attempt to illustrate that “racial privilege is one form of privilege”.
According to The College Fix, some of the ridiculous questions are: “I can be late to a meeting without having the lateness reflect on my race”, “I can choose blemish cover or bandages in flesh color and have them more or less match my skin” and “I can easily by (sic) posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys and children's magazines featuring people of my race”.
In addition to “white privilege”, students were also made aware of privilege in “gender, sexual orientation, class, and religion”.
Students were told by Professor Elliott to add up their scores. A higher score meant they had a high level of privilege and a lower score meant they had a lower level of privilege.
Finally, to earn the extra credit, students were told to answer the following questions: “Were you surprised by your score, or did it confirm what you already knew? Why is privilege normally invisible and what does it feel like to make it visible? Do you think this exercise is different for white students than for students of color? For black students than for Asian, Indian, Latino/a students, or other students of color?”
Not everyone thought the assignment was a good idea. San Diego State University College Republicans President Brandon Jones said, “This is another attempt by the Left, and Professor Elliot, to divide America.”
“The Left’s political goal is to ensure that minorities in America perpetuate that their primary problem is white racism. This only furthers the portrayal of minorities in America as victims and does nothing to help contribute to their advancement in society,” Jones added.
What do you think? Do you agree with Brandon Jones? Let us know in the comments.
A ridiculous exercise aimed at separating the members of the class as privileged racists/unprivileged racists. The non-white now can claim anything the whites do as privileged, including if they get better grades – which I have a feeling the prof will bell curve down by colour.
Is this a sociology course or Marxism 101?
Oh yes, the prof: what colour, race, creed is Elliott?
If you’re in a country like China or Nigeria, your products reflect the majority population when manufacturers deem a profit is to be made in catering to said population.
