University warns students “Cinco de Drinko” parties are “cultural appropriation”

StaffRebel Columnist

Residential Advisers and an apartment complex at California Polytechnic University handed out flyers with instructions to avoid offending Mexicans during Cinco de Mayo.

As Campus Reform reports, the flyers have two pictures, one depicting a Cinco de Mayo parade with revelers in sombreros, and the other showing college students with similar headgear under the caption, “Wearing a sombrero is not culturally appropriate.”

Below that are a list of dos and don'ts for the holiday telling students not to “wear a sombrero or fake mustache” and to avoid calling their parties Cinco de Drinko.

They should also avoid using Spanish “disrespectfully” or “visit party stores for costumes and accessories”.

The back encourages students to support “AUTHENTIC” Mexican businesses. “Hold your friends accountable,” it says. “Be respectful if someone calls you out for being disrespectful.”

Hopefully students do the exact opposite of what this flyer says and enjoy their Cinco de Drinko events.

This is the actual definition of appropriate. And by definition, you “appropriate” culture saying that some one can’t use something, that another has exclusive right to use it. So they are actually Appropriating the culture. They are out right accusers and liars.

2. To take to one’s self in exclusion of others; to claim or use as by an exclusive right. eg. Let no man appropriate the use of a common benefit.

1. To set apart for, or assign to a particular use, in exclusion of all other uses; as, a spot of ground is appropriated for a garden.

So I guess when Mexicans in the US speak English its “cultural appropriation”. When they wear baseball caps or cowboy hats, its “cultural appropriation”. Drinking (not snorting) Coke or Pepsi is “cultural appropriation”. Playing baseball or football is “cultural appropriation”. Watching hockey is “cultural appropriation”.

Demanding services in Spanish is cultural domination. Living in the US and after a decade still not being able to carry on a conversation in English is cultural disrespect.

Bigger question is why this Mexican national holiday is celebrated in the US. Schools in areas where there is no Spanish speaking population celebrate this as a holiday, shops close, and so on. Sure, its an excuse to get drunk and be as stupid as Justin Trudeau, but still, what has it to do with the USA?

So here is a cultural appropriation question for the regressive left.

The schools of both divisions in the Peace River area of Northern Alberta are in hand game competitions. This is to create awareness of a cultural aspect of First Nations, and as such the left wing educators expect students of all cultures to take part in them. However, the left says that if a whitey participates in a cultural aspect of another culture, it is cultural appropriation.

So according to regressive left logic, on the one hand, whitey is racist if they don’t participate in the hand games to gain an appreciation of First Nation culture, but at the same time whitey is racist for participating because it is cultural appropriation.

My question to the great regressive intellects that troll this site (eg Carter in his various forms or Stephenson in his various forms), is to explain this contradiction in left wing pseudo-logic.

Students/people need to decide what is totally insane and what isn’t. The list could go on forever. Do they not know that imitation is the best form of flattery. Dance, drink and live it up, it’s a Mexican holiday.
