Residential Advisers and an apartment complex at California Polytechnic University handed out flyers with instructions to avoid offending Mexicans during Cinco de Mayo.
As Campus Reform reports, the flyers have two pictures, one depicting a Cinco de Mayo parade with revelers in sombreros, and the other showing college students with similar headgear under the caption, “Wearing a sombrero is not culturally appropriate.”
Below that are a list of dos and don'ts for the holiday telling students not to “wear a sombrero or fake mustache” and to avoid calling their parties Cinco de Drinko.
They should also avoid using Spanish “disrespectfully” or “visit party stores for costumes and accessories”.
The back encourages students to support “AUTHENTIC” Mexican businesses. “Hold your friends accountable,” it says. “Be respectful if someone calls you out for being disrespectful.”
Hopefully students do the exact opposite of what this flyer says and enjoy their Cinco de Drinko events.
