US deploys ground troops in Iraq despite Obama's vow not to

Victor LaszloRebel Commentator

On a surprise visit to Iraq, US Defence Secretary Ash Carter announced the deployment of 200 new U.S. troops to the country. These will be at the battalion level as opposed to the advisory level, so will be doing actual fighting against ISIS.

One year ago, Obama explained that there would be no combat troops in Iraq.

(I guess it must have been some kind of "red line," in the Barack Obama sense of the term "red line.")
