The world's largest non-nuclear bomb was dropped on ISIS in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province today.
According to CBS, the area was so well-defended that it would have been very costly to human life for troops to clear it on foot.
In a statement the Pentagon said, “The strike was designed to minimize the risk to Afghan and U.S. Forces conducting clearing operations in the area while maximizing the destruction of ISIS-K fighters and facilities."
The military also said, the US “took every precaution to avoid civilian casualties with this strike”.
Developed in 2003 by the Air Force, the device is called the M.O.A.B, short for Massive Ordnance Air Blast. It's also referred to as the “mother of all bombs”.
This was the first time it has ever been used in combat.
