Celebrities are banding together in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting to attack gun rights. Because, you know, banning all guns will prevent criminals (who don't follow laws) from getting them!
A-list celebrities including Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Sheryl Crow, and Julianne Moore joined forces in a new PSA, urging Americans to "reject the NRA" and concealed carry laws. The video was made in the wake of the shooting at a Las Vegas concert earlier this month.
The PSA was created by Everytown for Gun Safety, a group funded by none other than Michael Bloomberg.
Of course, this star-studded video does nothing to present actual solutions in the wake of America's deadliest shooting. More gun laws would not have stopped the Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock--he had no history of mental illness and passed background checks in order to obtain the guns he used.
Given that stricter background checks would have done nothing to prevent Paddock from buying his guns, it remains unclear how the measures being pushed in the Everytown PSA relate to the Las Vegas shooting.
Even Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, a darling of the gun control movement, said on Face the Nation that no new laws could have stopped the Las Vegas shooting.
What these celebrities don't seem to understand is that gun control often makes it harder for law abiding citizens to purchase firearms for self-protection. Criminals, on the other hand, don't follow laws to begin with.
But hey, who needs logic in Hollywood?
