Votes at 16? Maybe we should INCREASE the voting age instead

Jack BuckbyRebel Contributor

Desperate to improve their electoral fortunes, the Welsh Labour Party government is putting through new legislation that will allow children to vote in future council elections.

This means that anyone aged 16 or over will be able to make decisions that impact mature people and their families.

This is terrifying.

The Labour Party are trying to make out this is some kind of victory — that this is fair, somehow — but we all know it's just a clever way of increasing their vote share. Now that Labour has lost practically all its seats in Scotland, they need to start taking swing seats and Conservative safe seats in order to form a government.

And while all this is going on, I can't help but wonder whether we should be doing the opposite. For as long as Millennials refuse to grow up, why aren't we thinking about increasing the voter age?

If people don't want to be responsible members of society, then why should they get to make important decisions at all? Just a thought!

Raising it would make sense. Lowering it will be devastating.

Or was that “guru” Di Nero pontificating?… Anyway, “the usual suspects”…

James Scott Scott… Excellent analysis of our social dynamic… We are indeed a nation of fools. heading into pakalolo heaven, given our propensity not to question reality but letting the all-knowing “gurus” set it out for us… After all, who could question the God-like wisdom of Dr. Fruit Fly,here in Canada, or Al Gore, in one of his mansions, or Brad Pitt or Ashley Judd or, gasp, Al Pacino!!!

There is NO DOUBT the voting age should be raised….NO ONE can convince me anyone, with the exception of a VERY few under the age of 25 has any real life experience or enough to make an informed decision on government

Maurice Potvin said in part, “Canadians certainly didn’t engage with their Neocortex in out last Federal election.”

That’s it in a nutshell!

I’d like to see a maximum age limit too. Should 90 year olds be able to vote?

Oops. Sorry.
Correction.
*should read ‘some UNqualified comment’**

Unfortunately there isn’t a mandatory test given to qualfy a voter. (Nor should there be)
But honestly, 80% of people who are eligble to vote do not follow world or domestic issues. Period.
I will add that I know 16 year olds that see through people like Trudeau. In fact I know many who can communicate ideas more thoughtfully and far more effectively than Trudeau.
The majority of voters use CBC and MSM for their up to the minute news cycle. And that’s about what they know; sound and video bites on CBC aren’t quite good enough. Do you think?
Most voters never do their homework. No cross references. No analysis undertaken to learn of consequences to a polical leader’s bull**** promises. Just take some qualified comment from Twitter at face value.
Of the remaining 20% there are 50% people like me who will never vote Socialism, Totalitarianism or Marxism. Period. Trudeau is a combination of all three of these groups. The other 50% of the 20% will vote ABC.
So basically if your party can fool the masses (80% ers) who are easily fooled because they don’t do their homework, we end up with a PM like Trudeau. The end result our Country is worse off because of it.

I think the voting age should be raised to 30 and one additional year for each year of attendance at a Brainwashing Institution pursuing a non STEM degree.

What they do in Wales is their own business, but according to Dr. Phil, the brain continues to grow and develop until the age of 25. And the last part of the brain to stop growing is the Neocortex; that part of the brain that’s responsible for predicting the consequences of one’s actions. Logically, that should probably be taken into consideration. But who am I to judge. Canadians certainly didn’t engage with their Neocortex in out last Federal election.

I believe that the voting age in most Western countries has been tied to the age when young men and women can join the military i.e. “if you’re old enough to die for your country then you’re old enough to vote”…

colin cramton,

That’s all Canadians, so what’s your point? Even people on welfare still pay taxes.

Please.

You don’t want young people to vote, because you know that they would vote Liberal. If conservatism was some hip thing among the youth, you would have no problem with them voting – informed or not.

It’s so easy to see through your bullshit.

I think any taxpayer, and ONLY taxpayers should be allowed to vote.

Sixteen year old kids voting in an election, is pure stupidity. How can a 16 year old make a political decision, when most of them are still thinking that changing hands is being unfaithful. In the words of the late George Formby, “That’s why I fell in love with my right hand” From the song, I’m a Wanker.

Ssshh! Don’t let Baby Doc Trudeau hear about lowering the vote. The way he is going, people are finally waking up to him. Ergo, its migrants (mostly Muslim) and children who would be his strength.

World: we are so screwed.

There has to be a big hole in the ozone layer or some weird isotope in the air that is turning all the Scottish brains to hagas .
Normal people in a centuries old democracy just don’t behave this way!
