Viewers flock to Clint Eastwood’s new movie — while award show ratings keep dropping

Amanda HeadRebel Contributor

I’m a big fan of Clint Eastwood, both his talent and his politics. I know I’m not alone, but even I was blown away when I found out just how well his new movie is doing at the box office.

Despite an almost total lack of promotion, The Mule is outperforming movies that were heavily hyped over the holiday season. According to Breitbart:

Nevertheless, after being quietly released into 2800 theaters over the holidays and opening to $17 million, The Mule’s staying power is a marvel. (…)

Usually a movie, even successful ones, lose 50 percent of their opening box office on the second weekend. On its fourth weekend, The Mule grossed $9.1 million, which is more than 50 percent of its opening weekend, which almost never happens.

With $81 million in the bank, at this rate, The Mule is almost certain to cross the magic $100 million mark before the end of its theatrical run.

Pretty incredible for a film starring an 88-year-old Republican, huh?

When will Hollywood learn that the average American just isn’t interested in watching the latest scolding leftist propaganda? Take the Golden Globe Awards, which aired on Sunday…

Right on, Alberta Maga. But the three pillars of leftiedom will prevent Nick from learning anything. That would be Pillar One- they never learn from their mistakes. Sure makes you wonder why they want to believe and disseminate lies, though, doesn’t it?

Nicholas Conklin she never said they do not make money, and not all of them are Liberals.
commented 2019-01-09 22:29:15 -0500
No, Mr-Babies-Are-Parasites, people didn’t watch because of Eastwoods politics. They simply don’t watching the rest because they are specifically political. Like going to movies in the Soviet Union. Eastwood doesn’t have to flog them with his politics unlike leftists who do. Comedy isn’t funny anymore and entertainment isn’t entertaining anymore.

Nostradamus…..? Hammer falling….?

Clint Eastwood calls himself a Libertarian last I checked, His movies are not political. Normal people unfettered by identity politics and post truth illogical are the people who go to his movies, the rest watch whatever it is that they watch. The left are threatened by logic and reality, so movies that deal with real people, relationships and situations, don’t go over with that crowd. So be it. Clint doesn’t care.

Alberta Maga,

What are you talking about? Nothing you are saying makes any sense.

The Connors is doing well in the ratings. Better than most network shows and ABC have ordered more episodes. The notion that The Connors would be cancelled after dumping Rosanne have been proven wrong.

The point that seems lost on Amanda and others is that if a conservative actor or project does well – all that really means is that Hollywood liberals that you so loathe are making more money. Warner Bros get the vast majority of money from Clint’s films. You all act as if some conservative movie studio is behind these films.

Don’t get me wrong though, I am a fan of Clint and his movies – but the Mule is not as big of a win for Warner Bros as she suggests. There are costs that she is not taking into consideration. It needs to make well of 100 million to even start making a true profit.

Amanda is clueless in this regard among MANY other things.

The ratings are still huge for award shows when you consider network shows in general. If they weren’t, the networks would dump these award shows.

Do you ever know what the hell you are talking about?

" It IS a political story because the average movie goer doesn’t want to watch SJW harangues. They don’t do well. Republican Eastwood film does do well. Better than the SJW scold-fests. "

That’s not really supported by the evidence here. Do we know people are watching a Clint Eastwood film because they agree with his politics? That’s a bit of a stretch, and the claim is basically tossed out there without any actual attempt to establish that causality.

Perhaps it’s a decent sounding movie and very likely the last chance to see a theatric Eastwood release? I’d probably watch it despite disagreeing with his politics. Not everything is political, Al.

Of course, if we really wanted to make it political, the Rebel did condemn the Ghostbusters remake, which did make 46 m in its first week, and 21 in its second. What specious inference could be made from that, I wonder?

Say, Nostradamus, did the hammer fall? I was away in BC for the weekend and I might have missed it. Again. If I did, what was it?

A story in which the Rebel tries to turn something that has nothing to do with politics into one, and tries to deliver a message based upon said specious reasoning.

Your own link says that Eastwood films have tended to open modestly but persist and that it’s not surprising that would happen again, and award shows have declined alongside other network TV.

Deceitfulness at work again, Mr-Babies-Are-Parasites. She never said it was surprising that an Eastwood film does this. She said it it amazing how an Eastwood film does this when others don’t. But spin away. It IS a political story because the average movie goer doesn’t want to watch SJW harangues. They don’t do well. Republican Eastwood film does do well. Better than the SJW scold-fests.

Nicholas Conklin i remember you schilling for the latest Kevin Spacey movie saying it had little promotion, well so did this movie. Now go other people names for an argument they did not even make.

Nicholas Conklin the Connors would kill to have the ratings that Roseanne had LMAO!
commented 2019-01-09 01:44:37 -0500
Nicholas Conklin she did not cal them evil doers , she asked when they will figure this out. Try some PERSPECTIVE and not add in your own falsehoods and bigotry.
commented 2019-01-09 01:41:51 -0500
Nicholas Conklin the perspective is that their ratings are dropping in large amounts and an awards show is once a year program, so comparing them to a football game that matters to only one country in any huge way is not very valid. SJW movies are not doing well and you know it.

Amanda, great subject and interesting show. When I’m 88, I am also going to be a Mule as I will need a lot of drugs to keep going.

Hollywood has always made some pretty good movies.
Hollywood is chalk-full of evil, lefty degenerates and assholes.
Hollywood still has a few gems working in the movie business.
Clint Eastwood is one of those stand-out gems…a renaissance man and movie making master. His star power and abilities as a movie icon will always attract a big crowd of movie goers…at the box office!
Do you deny Clint Eastwood is a Hollywood legend…‘Well do ya punk?’

Amanda seems to miss the irony in her moronic argument – that it’s the supposed evil doers at Warner Bros who are the ones benefitting financially here.

Not to mention that award shows still have more people watching them than most anything else besides sporting events like the Super Bowl.

Let’s put things into perspective – Amanda would kill little kittens to have the ratings of these “failing” award shows.

The Mule is proof that people want real entertainment from real stars. Of course the leftist lunatics just can’t get it. Let them have their stupid brag shows. We have beter things to watch than a bunch of self-important prigs preening themselves.

Two Awesome actors, men and patriotic Americans , Clint Eastwood and James Woods stand out like diamonds among the Idiots in the Hollyweird celebrity dung hole

Andrew, you obviously did not listen to what Amanda said or you did not comprehend what she said … probably the latter.

Congrats Amanda… Clint continues to succeed in spite of all the Liberal/Leftist haters in Hollyweird… Clint’s son is a celebrated Jazz performer. It’s nice that he had “connections”, but he still did it on his own merit. Kyle earned it… Looking forward to seeing the movie….

Clint hits it home again. His authenticity is his golden goose. The trailers look awesome.

Congrats on the ring. Have babies. Somebody has got to do it.
