(WATCH) Christian doctors in Ontario are fighting for religious freedom

Rebel Staff

If a doctor finds a treatment or procedure morally objectionable, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario says they must refer a patient to someone who will perform it.

The Christian Medical and Dental Society of Canada, the Canadian Federation of Catholic Physicians' Societies and Canadian Physicians for Life are fighting the decision in court this week.

True North's Andrew Lawton says religious freedom for healthcare practitioners must be upheld.

Andrew makes a good point. The possibility of patient rights being infringed is theoretical but infringing on a doctor’s right is actual. The reason referring somebody to a doctor who will do something contrary to what the referring doctor believes is making that person an accessary to the crime.

Referral is a reasonable solution that allows doctors who object to a certain procedure to opt out of performing it (you have no right to block access entirely) while still ensuring patients get their care.

Jew, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news in that I will not kill you. The bad news is I must refer you to Dr. Mengele. Aren’t you happy that I have the option of opting out?

Your job as a doctor is to ensure your patients get care.

True. But ripping away out of the womb is not giving care. It is murdering the baby (which is not a parasite) and endangering the mother. It is a breach of the Hippocratic oath. But maybe you thought it was the hypocritical oath.

Doctors in Ontario are basically public servants since they are paid by the tax payers. So serve all the tax payers and leave your religion at home.

Unless you are a muslim, of course. Then have your way with us.

Andrew Stephenson they are not blocking access, you are so full of dishonest bigotry. Quit acting like any crap you come up with qualifies as CARE! They are free to go elsewhere to look for a referral. Quit forcing your beliefs on others, you sure love to accuse others of doing that while you cheer those you agree with doing it. "

The doctor’s not doing his job then. If the doctor is unwilling to provide appropriate care to his patients, he can go find another job.

Craig James, religious faith is at it’s heart a personal declaration of what one believes to be objective truth with regards to the nature of creation and the identity of the creator, and all related truths that would logically flow from that declaration. That which we believe is an objective truth claim by the very nature of the fact that we believe it. Since truth, by it’s very nature, rules out contradictory views as false, truth itself is exclusive and therefore intolerant of error. I make no comment about who should or should not be legally licensed to practice medicine in Ontario. That’s for the licencing bodies to decide, which may or may not be fair and unbiased…. not my concern or my business. However, any Christian Doctor who violates their own convictions, and goes against what he or she believes to be objective truth is morally bankrupt. If they’re willing to compromise their integrity on that issue, I personally wouldn’t trust them with my health issues. On the other hand, if they don’t have a problem with abortion, that’s another issue, and if you don’t have a problem with abortion, fine. Go to them. I won’t, but you go ahead. Maybe the solution would be for them to move their practice to a jurisdiction where they won’t be discriminated against for their religious faith.

First of all, Andrew Stephenson is a nincompoop. Now that we got that out of the way, I thought all that would change under Doug Ford. Didn’t it? Or is the Ontario College of Physicians not accountable to the Provincial Government?

Andrew does that go for Muslim Doctors as well?

Andrew would have doctors referring FGM.

Your job as a doctor is to ensure your patients get care. You are not paid to pontificate or deny care options to your patients.
