A Muslim woman in Indiana was told to leave Family Dollar if she wouldn't remove her niqab.
Thirty-two-year-old Sarah Safi told Fox 6 that, “I might have made it 10 steps into the store and I hear the lady behind the counter say, ‘Ma’am, you need to take that off your face or you need to leave my store.”
She then told the manager that she was wearing a niqab and a hijab for religious purposes.
The manager then explained that because of the amount of crime in the area, they get robbed a lot. “I understand, but you have to understand, too, this is a high crime area and we get robbed a lot. You need to remove that from your face or remove yourself from the store.”
Safi filmed the incident on her phone, but left when the manager said police would be called if she didn't vacate the premises.
Family Dollar has yet to release a statement.
