WATCH: U of Calgary students react to Trump “MAGA” hat attack

Holly NicholasRebel Commentator

Just last week, a student at the University of Calgary was allegedly attacked for wearing a Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” hat while walking through MacEwan Hall, the busiest space on campus.

I had a chance to catch up with some conservative students to get their reactions to the incident.

Some of these students frequently wear the same, or similar hats on campus and I was curious to see whether they’re worried about thugs attacking them for wearing clothing that might be triggering.

Watch as they share their concerns about safety and also, whether or not they feel they are being treated differently by the university, and media, due to their conservative views.

At the time of this story, the university still hasn’t spoken out about the incident which happened one week ago.

Compare this to the incident at Mount Royal University last month when the president spoke out in favour of free speech after a vocal outburst occurred over another student wearing the same hat.

“3rd I remember seeing one before on camera.” That wouldn’t be the guy in the pink shirt in the middle front row would it Cameron? That is Andrew Brookman, the student who was attacked, that Holly initially interviewed and who made out the police report.

Bahaba set up rebel fake news. The alleged attack was by another conservative campus person. They all say they will wear the hat but on rebel news, not one wears the hat. 3rd I remember seeing one before on camera. Using your own staff to pose as supposedly students on campus, made me lol so hard. Rebel entertainment, remove the news part. And I might even buy a memebership. Great lol

Connie we have heard it all before. With all of Hillary’s criminal activity, you put Trumps ‘verbal’ faux-pas on top. There is nothing of any ‘substance’ on Trump, and enough on Hillary to put any other person in prison for a lifetime. But you go girl.

Dallas said..
“A civilized institution would expel any student displaying such behaviour.”

universities used to be a place of higher learning and a place where intellect was infinitely more valued than violence..
Now it’s a place teaching social restraints and the politically correct way to crush freedom of speech and immediately become violent towards those that do not share your opinion.

Trump is a disgusting human being. I do not blame anyone for doing the same thing.
Trump belongs in the gutter along with his slime.
He is one of the lowest forms of a human being.
Lies, lies, lies.

A user and an abuser.

Robert Dick you got that right, the left wing idiots sure do not get that fact.

I guess the University of Calgary approves of Brown Shirt thuggery. A civilized institution would expel any student displaying such behaviour.

You’re onto something Mike – hey any silk screeners out there ?

I’ll buy all the “MAKE ALBERTA GREAT AGAIN” shirts hats and bumper stickers you can produce.

Better yet set up the sale through the Rebel with the profits going to fund Seila’s trip to COP 22

Mongrel – " Mo shùile togam suas" bro!

Our U of C motto is Scottish Gaelic, in recognition of the Scottish heritage of the founders of the University (and Calgary) which loosely translated means " I will lift up mine eyes" an allusion to the biblical passage Psalm 121:1, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help”. This is an allusion to the fact that human social/cultural/technological evolution come from inspiration and that inspiration is seeking truth through elevated thinking/consciousness. - And there’s the rub – “Truth” politics today are not (or ever have been) focused at finding truth politics is not a elevated form of thinking – it is an unevolved vulgar way to get what you want. – in fact politics is about burying truth, denying truth or replacing the truth with alternate narratives – it is the science of manipulating the truth.

When we see things like science, art, reason, social constructs “politicized” we see these discaplines turning from being vehicles for arriving at the truth into vehicles for propagating political obfuscation of realities and shutting down rational debate – this requires one to accept unreasoning dogmatism instead of a logical syllogistic search for truth.

The left has adopted this radicalization/politicization of virtually every facet of life – it is no wonder the devolution of reason, learning and its institutions come from leftist dogmatics.

Like Bill Elder, UC was my alma mater for my undergrad degree. One discussed and disagreed over a friendly beer.

I sort of remember the 1972 Federal Election, which swung back and forth between the Liberals and the Conservatives, with liberal and NDP friends in the bar. Rounds being bought as the lead swung back and forth, hence my poor memory of the election. (We took pity on the poor NDP’er and excused him from buying rounds) I just do not see that happening these days on campuses.

Ever notice how much more mature and ‘’sane" the conservative types are? It’s pretty stark actually.

U of C is my alma mater and in my day there was a good balance of political opinion – the leftists had their rallies (which were usually poorly attended) and there really was no need to any political faction or partisan to feel the need to defend themselves against even a verbal attack – part of what we see now can be put down to a general degeneration in civility of the left but first and foremost this is just the natural progression of radicalism it is radicalism in any of its forms left or right or religious or statist that takes matters from civil discourse to physical intimintation and censure.

Radicalism is a matter of abandoning reason and rational thinking for dogmatism and reactionary response. Sad really but it is an indicator of the overall devolution of society and a failure of our learning institutions to counter radicalism with reason – we see in many cases the institution promoting radicalism.

Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views. – William F. Buckley, Jr.

University students support free speech; unfortunately the new trend is that they support free speech only as long as it is their believed Politically Correct point of view.
