What is a globalist?

Lauren SouthernArchive

If you've been following this election at all, you have probably heard the wordsv"globalist" and "globalism" thrown around a lot. Some of the people using it are nationalists, or patriots. They see globalism as a threat to the sovereignty of their nation. Whichever nation that happens to be.

Others argue that the term "globalism" is just a scary catch-all word invented by Trump supporters, or the alt right. A word that means nothing at best, and is a racist code at worst.

The reality is that globalism means something very specific, and very dangerous, if you value democracy, individualism, or any of the values of Western civilization.

Kind of shocked you omitted the Cold War. Two globalist superpowers using proxies for decades. One of those powers remains mainly intact, and seems to have missed the memo that the other is no longer there…

Fear not Glenn Craig… You attended many funerals as we all have and once passing from this world to the next you too will sit the judgment seat of God for your reward or punishment.
You have only time while you are living to get right with God and at the moment of your death no forgiveness shall take place.. Only judgement..

Glen Craig… You are a millennial child who has no grasp of how gold works and even less of economics… Your fantasy approach to the buy and sell has never occurred to you the concept of fair trade fair value..
There is no value in colored paper.

@jay Kelly….because theREBEL is not saddled with Canadian content regulations. The state broadcaster CBC is just loaded with highly partizan punditry regarding this election. Lauren happens to be Canadian…Gavin McGuiness is an ex-pat living in New York.

@leviticus 2013….there was one more point I wanted to make about the falacy of “the gold standard”….in order to fix the price of gold it would be necessary for the government to own ALL of it because unless you are the ONLY demand for gold you cannot hope to fix the price. Only in the former Soviet Union and Communist China was the mining production of gold state owned and regulated. Private mining companies will suspend operations if they are loosing money in their efforts to extract gold and there will always be shortfalls in the availabilty of currency. These shortfalls will tend to be filled by promissary notes that are not necessarily in government control. It was typical in the era of the gold standard to have no more than 20% of money in circulation actually backed by gold on deposit. Permitting private ownership of gold makes it a commodity whose price is at the capricious whim of speculators and the exact opposite of the value Rock of Gibralter that the hucksters have convinced people it is. The two things in the “alt right” I do not believe in are the gold standard and Alex Jones’ snake oil.

As well Leviticus 2013…..I have attended the funerals of three generations of people who died believing that the second coming of Christ was a matter of weeks away and I have attended the predicted end of the world too many times to be impressed.

In what world are Anne Coulter, Laura Ingraham and Pamela Geller hot?

They are all pretty gross actually and Ann Coulter especially looks like a man in women’s clothes. She even appears to have an adam’s apple.

These women are not example of hot conservatives. Megyn Kelly? Sure.

By “This election” she means the United States Presidential election. She has no other bearing.

Likewise by “patriots” she means U.S. nationalists.

Why does The Rebel allow a U.S. patriot on as a commentator?

@leviticus 2013…there were MANY reasons why the gold standard was abandoned…they include the reasons I previously stated but more importantly…. in order for a nation to establish a gold standard ALL PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF GOLD MUST BE MADE ILLEGAL…this proved to be unenforceable…and more importantly….

There simply is not enough gold in the world to represent the value of the goods and services that the world produces ….

“You cannot print money or borrow money to create wealth… It must be worked for..!!”

….bingo…in fact the actual value of gold is determined by how hard people are willing to work in order to get it out of the ground. There was a prospector in Nova Scotia named Edgar Horne who used to put his findings in safety deposit boxes at a bank and wait for the price to reach a point that would at least exceed minimum wage for the time and effort he put into prospecting searching digging ore crushing smelting casting into ingots etc etc etc before he sold it…..he lived in a trailer on “Horne’s Road”….I do know a little about the topic of gold.

Irresponsible money printing and all governments do it eventually lead to hyperinflation… Check out Weimar Germany just before the war.
And know you don’t have to sell it for Currency as back in the day every dollar that was ever printed what’s the receipt for precious metals held..
So I imagine that you are young idealist because you never knew that up until 1968 every dollar in Canada was represented by precious metal holdings.

We are at the tail end of a globally instituted Fiat money system and if you are middle-aged or younger you will see… You will witness what happens when a monetary system fails in an advanced country.

Glen Craig… The explanation of sound economics, monetary trade and intrinsic value of trading medium I believe is beyond your grasp so there’s no further effort that I will make do you introduce you to the value of sound money.
As well what we are involved in globally is called a Fiat money system… You can look into that if you want to see what that means because I will not take the time to explain it to you. Through the course of time there has never been a successful Fiat money experiment in the history of mankind and they generally only last 40 to 50 years and they all end with catastrophic event.

@leviticus 2013…..problem with gold is you have to sell it for fiat currency before you can actually buy anything. That is only advantageous if you bought it at short price and sell it at long price. The reason why it is stridently hard sold like a Filter Queen vacuum cleaner is because those who bought it at long price realize they were snookered and are anxious to sell it before they loose their shirts. Anytime gold is selling for short price just try to buy some.

@leviticus 2013… Why should the nations that have the most gold in the ground become the wealthiest nations? The Romans caught on to that a long time ago and based their currency on salt. If you do not believe that the signed promises to pay in your wallet or in your bank account have any value you are welcome to give them to me.

Salt has more intrinsic value than gold…salt will preserve fish in the winter…gold does sweet fuck all in terms of sustaining survival.

Freedom is dying. There’s no money anywhere, except for in the coffers of presidents and kings. We debased our currencies into dust and let politicians sell our futures to banks and corporations. Citizenship is worthless. Our lives are worthless. That’s why they’re flooding us with third world savages. We see the worthlessness we’ve created and we’re stopping buying everything, participating at all. So they import savages in a desperate attempt to fill the gap.

An attempt that will fail, as it has every time to every civilization that has ever tried this. Pick your brand of bread and circus as you will. Either way, we’re 100% f-ed. I pick the one that lets me defend myself. Other than that, they’re all sell-outs and piles of trash.

We need that sparking event. It will happen. Someone is going to film something so evil that all human beings that see it will snap and it will spread on foot like a firestorm and no censorship will stop it.

Bill, that’s correct!!!! Governments have allowed monopolies to corrupt the free market system. Lots of people don’t realize that running monopolies is illegal in both Canada and the USA , but the current corporate globalists and banksters have bought off “all” politicians across the political spectrum.

This is why such hatred is shown for DJT. He wants to scrap all trade deals including NAFTA and the TPP, you know the deal that Harper was so keen on, and of course now the liberals are now embracing. The movement that is behind Trump has clearly illustrated that both parties are basically the same, as is in Canada, the line between liberal and conservative is a blurry one. Harper did some good things for Canada, but he is a globalist after all. The list is too long for all the things his government could have done in the last 9 years, but refused, only to please his globalist masters.

John Siciliano – you realize that text book laissez faire free market capitalism has not existed in Canada – we went from monarchy franchised monopolies to a landed gentry colonial oligopoly to the new American system of crony capitalism where corporate and private commercial success is directly pegged you the amount of government access and market protection you can buy through the party systems – who hold advance-auctions on commercial success through a well developed donor-client funding system.

You are wrong About Harper in Ontario though, although he did nothing to help, the deindustrialization and debt-enslavement of Ontario’s economy started with Mulroney who , through the FTA, cleared the way for major corporate industries to migrate to more tax-friendly China/Mexico/southern US – McGuinty and Wynne put the nails in the coffin by pushing operating costs beyond profit margins and the business migration from Ontario made it a rust belt welfare state.

Great breakdown of Globalism Lauren.
Globalism can be compared to International Corporatism.
“Definition of corporatism. : the organization of a society into industrial and professional corporations serving as organs of political representation and exercising control over persons and activities within their jurisdiction.” Merriam-Webster
As an example; In Williams Lake, BC – a smallish resource extraction and ranching community in the central interior of about 11,000 people – TOTAL PET, where I have been a customer for many years, was bought out by BOSLEY’s, who is inturn owned by PET VALU, whose head office is in Toronto. Among other changes, many popular products were discontinued – this being a corporate head office policy from Toronto – likely made by some wonk in a suit in some office tower who likely knows nothing about pets, pet feeding and care, or cares one wit about the locals all the way across Canada in Williams Lake. He likely made this corporate head office decision in Toronto based on flowcharts, profit margins and whatever other kind of corporatese voodoo gobbledygook, wonks in suits use to maximise market share and corporate profit – not that there is anything wrong with profit, it makes the world go round after all – but it’s the blatant disregard for their customers and the locals in order to gouge profits, that makes them and Big Corporate bad corporate citizens – generally Big Corporate as multi-conglomerates – could care less about national sovereignty and national borders…and actually work against them!
Many in Williams Lake – myself included – have decided to take their pet food/supply dollars elsewhere after this nasty corporate decision, and I only hope that many more do also and reward these bad corporate citizens for their corporatist greed…
No matter how it’s spun Globalism is evil as are the ‘people’ who populate its ranks and promote it…

Excellent monologue. I was particularly impressed with (and in agreement with) the comment about humans being flawed and fallible (and fallen, from a Christian perspective), and what follows from this. Because of this inherent weakness, all idealized political and economic systems and ideologies – socialism, communism, capitalism, globalism, multiculturalism, etc. – are consequently flawed, to varying extents. People WILL try to exploit their fellows, and take advantage of them, cheat them, enslave them even – simply because people are flawed. The best we can do, I’ve always thought, is to try to incorporate checks and balances on the powerful, to try to limit the power of any one person or group (the US system comes to mind) with freedom of speech and democracy playing a central role in this regard. Whatever else globalism is about, it is not about democracy or freedom: it is about a relatively small group of elites trying to shove “medicine” down the unwashed masses’ throats … for their own good, of course.

Harper did 38 agreements and even the people at the time suggested in 1988 that we would lose thousands of jobs per year and look at the results now with Ontario having lost 500,000 manufacturing jobs and Canada having lost many millions of jobs and that was under PC, Liberal and Conservative governments federally. Yes, the federal one has more of an impact on the jobs going away. This is why I say that globalism means selling out the nation and trying to find savings and is a race to the bottom. When will people understand that capitalism can only work in a full employment type of situation mixed with many systems such as nationalism, socialism, capitalism, and libertarianism, as my economics professor pointed out. He did suggest that capitalism is a mishmash of many systems together, but he suggested that the balance since 1984 has gone way too far to the corporate side and not enough to the nationalist-protectionist side.
commented 2016-09-17 01:53:35 -0400
Globalism means globalization Drew. That means selling out resources and not looking after the nation and wanting full employment. That is why parties exist that are against NATO and mainstream ideologies and mainstream economic systems. You should do a bit of research on why anti-globalist parties exist.
commented 2016-09-17 01:51:29 -0400
John Sicilano – You seem to be going in the right direction but you get hung up in putting political brand names on things – yrs, Harper aided globalist financial goals to get trade, he rejected political globalism as he rejected UN governing autonomy, but other less libertarian conservatives embrace globalism whole heatedly – it is Liberals who are globalism on steroids because its core ideals/goals are theirs – globalism is the merger of insider/oligopoly capitalism with global communism in order to create a post-industrial, post-national global governance with a centrally planned neo-feudalist homogenic society.

And the last person you would see embrace globalism is a libertarian who believes in personal and state autonomy.

@leviticus 2013 – Actually libertarians do embrace globalism because globalism by the definition of a civic nationalist means rejecting the national state, national borders, national sovereignty, and the idea of having secure borders and an independent state. What Rebel wants is libertarianism to be viewed as somehow preserving the state and somehow being for protecting water rights, independent in the judiciary, independence in social programs and keeping them, independence in media, and independence when it comes to war.

These are issues which Southern never talks about and Rebel never talks about.

They do not even discuss how left wing nationalists differ from civic nationalists versus right wing nationalists and even centrist nationalists. All these areas have one thing in common that they do not follow the type of systems practiced by neoliberal conservatives like the Conservative party or neoliberal centre-left parties like the Liberals and the NDP.

The fact is left-right means nothing when it comes to how far a party is in a particular type of capitalism. Capitalism has many forms. It can take the state capitalist route. It can take the neoliberal route. It can take the full-on green route. It can take the libertarian route on the left, right and centre. These connotations and types are never even suggested and everything is black and white.

I want nationalist ideologies in Canada because they would be more isolationist and they would protect our sovereignty. It should be easy for people to understand this, but Rebel blurs the lines. They are just following the US agenda as Jay Kelly so accurately put it.

And communists want their own version of internationalism just like socialists and just like capitalism with globalism wants as well. Even the Conservative party wants their own form of globalism in capitalism much like the NDP and Liberals. Neoliberalism is a form of globalism in capitalism and we should all know that globalism in capitalism means baby steps towards the deterioration of capitalism in the long run because it means the selling off of capitalism to foreign investors and the corporate class. As Mussolini stated, capitalism merged with government is fascism. Fascists were always the corporate class and why our system more resembles fascist Italy than Nazi Germany which was Nazism and Russia which was Bolshevik in the 1930’s to 1940’s. People need to learn their history. All these systems had differences and stark differences.

And people should know that free markets will not guarantee a system of many businesses in every sector. Such a model cannot work and why free market capitalism is merely utopia. And I call it another form of corporatism aka corporate capitalism.

The only way to have true independent and nationalist states is to support nationalist parties on the left, centre, right and even far-right and far-left and civic nationalist parties. Why people do not understand these facts on Rebel shows they do not know about basic political science. Each type of system fused with conservative, liberal or centre-left ideologies will work differently as all systems do. It is why systems progress or change every generation or simply remain the same.
