Brian Lilley: "A bike path with a mural" -- What Liberals REALLY mean by "infrastructure" (and no one else will tell you)

Brian LilleyArchive

With Ezra still in Europe, I'm continuing to guest host. Tonight I'll tell you what the Liberals are planning to spend your tax dollars on.

The Liberals campaigned on "infrastructure investments," and that sounds fairly reasonable.

Except that as I've been warning you for months -- and almost no one else in the media has -- those words mean different things to the Liberals than they do to you and me.

Did you know that "infrastructure" could mean a national daycare program, for example?

Oh, and big spending on... public art.

I'm serious: A bike path with a mural on it. THAT'S what they mean by "infrastructure."

WATCH while I explain all the depressing details.

Then my guest Dr. Ian Lee, professor of economics at the Sprott School of Business, tells me that Harper left Canada in great shape. As an economist, he has no problem with deficits and spending under very specific circumstances, like the Great Depression.

But Lee adds that there is no justification for such spending right now.

He also explains how a carbon tax will permeate all facets of our lives and reduced discretionary spending across the board. Don't miss it -- Dr. Lee lays everything out in layman's terms.

And of course, we end with your emails to me!

Thanks for watching, as always.

Don Armitage, there are a lot of ‘Western Separation’ facebook groups but as far as I can see, no charismatic leader has yet emerged !

We need to get away from this impending disaster before it happens. Where is the charismatic leader to lead western separation?

This just establishes that the pig trough will be huge until the next election. Or, until Canada is bankrupt, which will hopefully happen before the next election. Either way, let the wrecking begin. The sooner the rancid carcass called Canada is intered, the better it will be for Western Canada.

“As an economist, he has no problem with deficits and spending under very specific circumstances, like the Great Depression.”

Unlike Harper (not an economist, just a graduate), who would have happily let things crash and burn had the Liberals and NDP not forced his hand.

Speaking of the Libranos, we need to update that T-shirt and poster.

Your other reservations aside, why do reject the notion of a national childcare plan? A lot are in favour of it and would be beneficial. Also; we had it in place before the NDPs removed it with Harper doing nothing to bring it back.

Hey, government at all levels, federal, provincial and municipal, don,t give a rat,s ass about deficits and debt so why should I. I have no debt. And, how I love this new fiscal smoke and mirrors paradigm: ‘well we may be in debt but our debt to GDP ratio is the lowest of all the G7 countries.’ What? That,s like saying that while everyone else is jumping off the financial cliff, I`m okay because I`ll be the last one to jump.

Very good show. Ask about green jobs, green infrastructure, they have no answer I have asked and it is all buzzwords and feel good slogans, they only use it to look cool for the msm which swallows hook line and sinker, green jobs is complete BS and they know it, so is green infrastructure, or lets us not forget how paying carbon taxes will save the planet ?? yet to figure that one out. Add this all up and I want the west out, the difference’s are just to big to overcome, the east wants big gov big spending let them have it, The west wants out more so every day.

Great show Brian! You’re doing an awesome job filling in for Ezra. Thank you and Dr.Lee for breaking everything down about the fiberals (Thanks Seymore Doolittle for that word, I’m going to use it ☺) “infrastructure” plans and what they really mean, as well as the carbon tax that will soon be in place. I don’t think a lot of people understand how deep it will go. I know several people who voted for the libs just because they didn’t want their taxes to go up, they actually believed him when he said that budgets will balance themselves. Another example of uninformed voters.
commented 2016-02-25 09:05:40 -0500
I doubt that ANY of the fiberals has a clue about diminishing returns; there used to be several real economists in government. I miss those days.
commented 2016-02-25 03:12:10 -0500
So did the expensive renovations to the home of the prime minister get written off as infrastructure costs?
commented 2016-02-25 03:05:07 -0500
I’m glad to see Dr. Lee on here. I was just about to write and suggest they get him on the air!
Deceitful, tax and spend. All the things they say they’re not, then do them, in spades, and with zero shame! Incredible!

The biggest issue with the libranos is that if you follow what they say, you’re screwed.

Watch what libranos do and you get the truth about what they will do.

Investment, infrastructure = higher taxes and kickbacks to friendly vendors.

The best news is that the global economy is tanking – some Canadian provinces will default, specifically Ontario, Quebec and now Alberta.

And with PM Butts in charge, Canada will default too. And it’s going to be ugly – the libranos will drive taxes through the roof before admitting there is a problem.

I wonder when the foot wash stations and prayer rug containers will be all over the country? Those will be called infrastructure by the left and the media party, meanwhile REAL CANADIANS will live in squalor and have even more ripped from them by these scum.

I very much enjoyed hearing and seeing my two favourite commentators talk it out tonight.

One thing is for sure, future generations will be paying for Idiot Trudeau,s stupidity until Doomsday. Or was Doomsday the day he was elected?
commented 2016-02-25 00:08:02 -0500
These carbon taxes will hurt us all big time. There is already talk that Wynne’s carbon taxes in Ontario will add at least 4 cents a litre to the price of gas. Home heating and just about everything else that has to do with oil or gas will also cost more. Everyone will have less spending money therefore the economy will slow to a crawl. I just pray that if the Conservatives get back in they will do the right thing and drop this silly tax.

Brian, as so many Rebels have posted, thanks for having Ian Lee on for enough time to enable him to make his points. To me he is the best and most understandable economist in Canada. I only worry that he will wear himself out as he comments on so many programs.

Glen Reid,
An interesting point. Why did Canadians vote for this tool? We did it because we want to be lied to. We want it. We demand it. Nothing has changed since Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The serpent told them, “you eyes will opened and you will be like God”. They desperately wanted to believe that lie. It is the same lie we still want to believe.

I have largely quit ragging on our lying politicians. I blame the average Canadian dope who swallows the tripe that out so called leaders dish out. We know it can’t work but we are willing to sell our and our children’s birthright for imagined short term gain and ease. Professing to be wise we became fools. We are desperately seeking comforting lies.

Really is quite depressing to hear about this carbon tax and how it filters into every type of transaction one does from buying groceries, clothes, gas, car repairs, house repairs making all goods expensive and further hearing possibly 4 years later Trudeau will be increasing the GST on top of it all!

This Political Party sure knows how to take the pleasure out of life doesn’t it? Especially for people who are growing older, this just kind of makes one tired in the thought that they are still not finished putting obstacles in front of ones’ life to make it more difficult and make the hill steeper and harder to climb! If there is ever a major way one can contribute to kicking this Government in the seat of the pants let me know, I certainly would like to take my two cents worth out of their hides other than just voting against them!

The worst of it is they are bound and determined to lay this Carbon tax and Bull Social infrastructure indebtedness that will last forever on Canadian citizens’ for generations’ and it seems there is no one or anyone who has any knowledge of how to stop them! Something wrong with our political system when we just have to sit here and let them do it without having MP’s or Opposition members who could stand up in Parliament and stop them?

Sometimes I wonder if Canadians’ would be better of not to have a form of Congressmen to represent them similar to the American system? As long as you’ve got an honest Congressman we may be better off? I may be wrong but it seems they are better able to stop certain Legislation than we are? I may stand to be enlightened?
I wouldn’t want Trudeau setting it up though!

Really what do you guys have against PM Justie Claus? I can’t wait for my slice of someone else’s money! Maybe someday he will come to my town and we’ll have a big parade full of pomp and ceremony and NO expense will be spared! He’ll swoop in with his big Liberal red bag of other peoples money and then handouts will flow like sweet, sweet wine! I can’t wait! The party never stops for PM Justie Claus! It’s always the 25th of Dec. on Parliament Hill now! Sunny ways! Hey you only live once so why not saddle my children with insurmountable debt? John Maynard Keyes and I will be long dead when the Piper comes to collect what he’s owed!

He says he will put ti to the voters because ‘they wanted it’. I think he will just once again blame Harper.

Dr. Lee was pretty animated tonight; thanks for having such a lengthy segment with him, Brian!

Dear Justin’s Diary,
Thanks for leading us back to sanity. And making it fun along the way!! Are you sure you aren’t a Liberal effing with us, trying to get our hopes up?
commented 2016-02-24 21:28:48 -0500
We’ll all be riding bikes soon enough, we won’t be able to afford to drive cars ,heat our homes, buy groceries, especially after we in Alberta get a double dose of carbon tax. Soon the average household will be shelling out 80% of income to taxes. This is even more insidious than communism.
commented 2016-02-24 21:16:02 -0500
Good show Brian although I was mystified that you seem to not have any understanding of Trudeau’s Green Infrastructure! Ontario’s Green FAIL was clear enough wasn’t it? = one $Billion boondoggle after another after another until the province went bankrupt and drove most of its wealth and job creators out to greener venues (pun intended)! If you want or need some outside reference material on what Green means to a progressive, get familiar with the UN Agenda 21 – if you haven’t already! Now that agenda needs more exposure if capitalism, democracies and western cultures are important to you!

Good show BRIANIAN LEE——a no bull shit professor .
commented 2016-02-24 20:56:43 -0500
Andrew – give some of us credit, as PM Harper won 99-seats! That isn’t to shabby, considering the leftwing parties all had money flowing in from the UN. How could they lose. Like I said, PM Harper did well, considering he was up against evil.

And I said those very same words about our own Kim Jong-Un when Junior was elected.

Enjoyed your guest Dr. Ian Lee, says it how it is for even the uneducated voter to understand. With this criminal spending by the Liberals taxes are going to go through the roof. This is insane, why o why did people vote for this fool.
