What’s the true motive behind Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather app?

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Host | The Gunn Show

In their ongoing quest to expand their bloated mandate into uncharted territory, waste your money, and poorly replicate services already perfected in the private sector, the Government of Canada is creating a mobile weather app for Smartphones and other devices.

This app was the brainchild of Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna, who told the CBC:

We're really excited. It's clear Canadians care greatly about weather. They care about good weather. They care about bad weather ...So I just thought it was important to go where people are at. People are using apps. That's a great way to get updated information, targeted information for your community.

The Weather Network and a gazillion other apps already take Environment Canada weather information and use it in their apps, so why make a new one, using the same data sets, ten years late to the weather app game?

McKenna tipped her hand and told us exactly why Environment Canada is getting into the mobile apps biz in her comments to the CBC when she said the app will alert Canadians about severe weather events near their homes, and offer information about climate change.

McKenna is using government resources to make an app that re-enforces Liberal climate change policy narratives.

All those other apps just tell you the weather. They don’t tell you how to feel about it, and those other apps won’t scare you into supporting a Liberal carbon tax.

Andrew i guess Facebook and Google do not mine data , just a conspiracy right? LMAO! You are such a drone. "

I’m sure the government does, although I trust the government a whole lot more than I do Facebook. The government doesn’t have a commercial interest in re-selling data.

OF course, this leaves aside the observation that if the government were to track you, there are easier ways to do it. Your license plate is constantly being scanned, which is how some provinces have done away with validation stickers. Take the bus? You leave a trail of origin-destination pairs tied to your card. Walking around? Good thing there’s no facial recognition software. Oh, if you’re in Sask, the land of conservative heroes, the government owns the cell phone network and can see where you are and what you’re doing anyway. If they’re interested in you individually, there are more effective forms of surveillance. If they’re interested in aggregate statistics, let’s have a little chat about statistical validity of non-random sampling …

Environment Canada’s mandate includes covering climate change. Oh, the climate is changing, no matter how much that makes certain individuals squirm. This is directly observable and not up for debate. The cause might be – we still don’t know how much it’s natural vs human, but there’s a lot to support substantial human influence and it needs to be addressed as the distinct possibility it is.

Every time you find yourself looking for conspiracies, ask yourself if you’re inventing an unnecessarily complex method of doing something done far more effectively in some simpler way.

To be sure, anyone that tunes into the State Broadcaster or Constant Trudeau Vision will be gleefully getting further instructions from Klimate Barfie and the Mother Ship via this new cutting edge app – maybe even some daily inspiration quotes from the Quran.

Allan Peterson, great post.
Maybe in the next installment, you can highlight some of Climate Barbie’s problematic Twitter messages…. old dying polar bear who she claimed was starving due to shrinking polar ice…the same year ice breakers got stuck – she confused a puffin for a penguin, etc…no doubt her new App will also send out false information.

Thanks, Mike.
Must be from making up stories for my kids. Of course I was inspired by the insightful musings of the Climate Babs herself,

That introductory statement read like a children’s book.

Look! Look! There is Climate Barbie!

Climate Barbie knows about Canadians like you and me. Canadians care greatly about the weather. Canadians are excited. They care about good weather and they care about bad weather.

Canadians care about cold weather and they care about hot weather. Canadians also care about snowy weather and rainy weather. Good Climate Barbie. Climate Barbie will keep Canadians informed. She will keep them informed about the weather. She will keep them informed about good weather. That is good thing to do since Canadians like to enjoy the outdoors in the good weather.

But Climate Barbie will also keep Canadians informed about bad weather and that is also a good thing. Bad things can happen to good Canadians when the weather is bad. Floods could come and wash their houses away. Tornados could come and tear their houses and them out of the ground and swirl them up in the air around and around. Would you like to be in a flood or a tornado? NO! These are bad weather! But fear not children, Climate Barbie has a plan to keep good Canadians safe from bad weather.

Some weather can be good and bad! Snow is good because you can go skiing. But not snowmobiling because snowmobiling adds to the earth’s carbon footprint and that is a bad thing. Never ride on a snowmobile, Okay? Good.

Even though you can go skiing and get a day off from school or work because of snow it can also be a bad thing. Sometime people get stuck in their homes or buses for a long. long time. Sometimes snow can turn into a blizzard and that is very bad weather, indeed. Blizzards can kill people. But good, good Climate Barbie will keep people informed about bad blizzards so they can take shelter and not die. Isn’t Climate Barbie wonderful? Isn’t Climate Barbie a good friend to good Canadians who don’t drive cars, or ride snowmobiles, or ride motorcycles or fly airplanes or light Bar-B-Ques?

Rainy weather excites many Canadians, too. Rain is good. It makes our trees grow and trees reduce the amount of carbon in the air to prevent global warming. Global warning is a bad thing. Isn’t it wonderful that Canada has Climate Barbie to save us from ourselves? It sure is.

Rain also helps to grow our food. So we need rain to help us grow food that makes us big and strong. Of course girls can be just as strong as boys. Aren’t you glad that Climate Barbie includes gender considerations in her new weather app?

But by now you probably know that rain can also be bad. Too much rain can kill the gardens we use to grow food to make girls just as strong as boys. Too much rain can also cause floods that wash people and houses and roads away. It’s okay if roads get washed away because roads are used by cars and trucks that burn bad carbon fuels. So washing roads away helps to save the world.

Dry weather can be good and bad also. Canadians get excited about dry weather because then they can go outside and play. Of course girls can win at games as well as boys so we need to be thankful to Climate Barbie for her focus on intersectionality. We will talk about gender fluidity later on. Transgendered people can play games and win too. O, good, good Climate Barbie!

But if weather gets too dry then Canadians should not be excited anymore. When weather gets too dry plants don’t grow and the heat can cause people to die. Forest fires also spread when it is hot and dry. But the good thing is that Canadians can rely on Climate Barbie to tell us if it is too hot outside. She can tell us not to light a fire if it is too dry. Up until now we never knew and a lot of people died unnecessarily. But not anymore .Climate Barbie will save us!

Well, children, we will continue the story tomorrow. For now you should say your prayers and thank the Lord for providing us a saviour like Climate Barbie. We will talk more about gender fluidity and it’s impact on weather tomorrow.

Good nigh, John Boy.

Andrew Stephenson there are already many of them. Why make another at taxpayers expense that no one will want except for sheep like you. And we can see the weather, all the BS predictions from the climate kooks have not happened. HAVE A NICE DAY!

Erh… the weather?

Apparently, given the blandness of reality, the conservative mind goes off the deep end in creating exciting new conspiracies, and we have some doozies in here.

Because of what I have seen I refuse to trust the government for what I can’t see.

All knowing Andrew,…for some one that claims to know so much, you sure are a gullible putz. By the the way, have you seen the ocean front condos for sale in SE Sask? What a clown you are.
Well…you and that other regressive troll posting here, grab an ass wad. In fact, that names sums that idiot perfectly…ASS WAD!

By all means Andrew, give the government permission to spy on your every move online and offline, download their preachy App and give them everything!

Oh, the loud alert on my phone was a test, it didn’t work for me last week when the test was launched in Ontario and Quebec.

Andrew, have you not been paying attention to how Apps have been used across social media platforms to collect mega data, share/sell the data, store the data even after the user thinks he/she has deleted the App?

Today, the emergency broadcast alert sounded on my phone at 11:35 am. Isn’t this the function of this national program…weather emergencies, threats of a grand scale, amber alerts…. Plus, there are weather Apps already.
Why is the Minister of AirMiles reinventing the wheel?
commented 2018-05-14 21:45:09 -0400
Wow, this app is straight from the communist brainwashing handbook. It’s not about the weather, it’s about making you think correctly.

Good on Minister McKenna for providing climate education in a progressive manner. Note Rebel finally respecting her ability by not calling her names.
commented 2018-05-14 21:07:52 -0400
What a brilliant observation. It’s getting so that the government is only there to propagandize us. They have the CBC and now they want apps to massage our minds into compliance with Big Brother Trudeau. And as for Environment Canada, their radio network is wonky. Stations are frequently off the air or having technical difficulties. I’m sure the new weather app will be the same or worse. Also, maybe Climate Barbie could get 8 track tape machines manufactured to save the handful of cartridges from being tossed out. :-)

This brings to mind something I remember happening several years back. I went to a computer show and one of the booths was manned by the Fed Govt . I started chatting with the two guys there and they said their job was to sell software that the various Depts. and Ministries no longer used. It was all custom in-house software built by Fed Govt employees for Fed Govt employees. What was alarming was the cost that was generated by this dumb@ss policy. The custom in-house Office Suite would cost 10+ times the cost of an off the shelf product and would ultimately have to thrown out because of it’s built in incompatibility with common products the public was using.
A good example of this is the Fed’s Phoenix pay system used for its employees . It is an absolute horror show and is still not fixed. Instead of using a pay system that is used by large corporations , the Feds continue to think they’re smarter than the public.
What a bunch of maroons !

I took this from another site…It’s about modern liberalism…Just another everyday person expressing their thoughts while we can…

“Add to that, is that Liberals actually really know they are committing evil but believe (religiously) that any cost is worth it to create their fantasy world. As a matter of fact the worse morally they are, the more they feel it necessary to preach and punish. It’s as if they are in penance, but flogging their neighbors for their own sins. The reason you can’t win an argument with a Liberal is not because you can’t win an argument with an idiot, it’s because a Liberal argues for arguments sake, not to prove they are right. After shoveling Schiff at you for an argument, they self proclaim they have won. Hell, they even have fake news, fake science, fake history, fake physics, fake math, fake logic, fake facts to back up their fake arguments. In fact their whole world is self created, a complete fake interdimensional fantasy world created in their minds in which every facet of their world can be used to prove almost any insanity. Very sick people. If they feel so guilty about their failing and hate the rest of us so much, why don’t they just jump off a bridge.”
commented 2018-05-14 20:06:00 -0400
Why isn’t climate Barbie going over to France and other countries like Palestine to get them to stop burning cars and tires . These cause a lot of toxic pollution and carbon pollution . Air pollution bad raw sewage ok because they don’t seem to care that much about it do they .
Can’t wait till we kick their ass to the curb so she can get a real job and pay all her stupid taxes from her own pocket like the rest of us .
Canadians are going to get real pissed off when gas nears $2 a litre .
Just smoke a little more pot , pot heads you voted for the fool on the hill .
commented 2018-05-14 18:55:57 -0400
Why yes, the government absolutely intends to invade your privacy via App and track your every move on-line. Big data collection ploy and the opportunity to scold Canadians repeatedly, each day, all day!

Minister of AirMiles and her fellow climate alarmists are still researching historical Communist propaganda; tweaking needed to give it the 2018 spin and then they will launch it. All of this takes time.

BILLY HOWARD Said: "I wonder if there’s a hidden virus-like component in the app that tracks all data and communications incoming and outgoing? Just sayin’… "

Count on it.

I think both John & Billy have hit on the hidden reason for the app, to collect data, at least meta data.

I don’t trust anything that comes from this Liberal weasel government.
commented 2018-05-14 18:23:05 -0400
Just more dogma from the climate zealots in gov’t designed for schools and children (another mode of indoctrination). I wouldn’t be surprised if Trudeau insisted all phones sold in Canada contain said app.
I wonder if there’s a hidden virus-like component in the app that tracks all data and communications incoming and outgoing? Just sayin’…
