A video has been gaining steam online, in which Christiana Figueres, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has a conversation with Climate One founder Greg Dalton. In the video, Figueres says 'every effort' should be taken to depopulate the planet.
“...isn’t it true that stopping the rise of the population would be one of the biggest levers and driving the rise of green house gases?” Dalton asks.
“Obviously less people would exert less pressure on the natural resources,” she answered.
Figueres estimated that the Earth's population will be nine billion in 2050. Dalton asked her if there was a way to change that.
“There is pressure in the system to go toward that; we can definitely change those, right? We can definitely change those numbers. Really, we should make every effort to change those numbers because we are already, today, already exceeding the planet’s planetary carrying capacity,” she said.
“So yes we should do everything possible. But we cannot fall into the very simplistic opinion of saying just by curtailing population then we’ve solved the problem. It is not either/or, it is an and/also,” she added.
According to The New American, Figueres said the communist regime in Beijing, famous for forced abortions and mass murder, is “doing it right” when it comes to fighting alleged global warming.
The 2013 video has been going viral after being posted on InfoWars.
