I’ve now come to the conclusion that two separate atrocities occurred when Omar Mateen committed mass-murder at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub.
The first was of course the cold-blooded murder of 49 innocent people and 53 injured.
But the second is how law enforcement, politicians, and the majority of media have gone out of their way to either downplay or whitewash the fact that the gunman was a jihadist carrying out his grotesque crime in the name of Islam.
We’ve seen how 911 transcripts were altered to change the gunman’s allegiance from the Islam-specific “Allah” to the generic “God.”
Then Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, herself a lesbian, stated “homophobia cannot be fought with Islamophobia”, even though most of the dead and injured are gay men, the terrorist was an Islamist and in most Muslim countries, homophobia is actually official state policy.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard “fundamentalist Christians” uttered in discussions about Orlando even though it had nothing to do with Christians, fundamentalist or otherwise. But, you know what they say, Islam is a religion of peace. To suggest otherwise might offend people and that could get you hauled into a Human Rights tribunal.
When will we see someone in authority throw political correctness into the trashcan in favour of proclaiming such common sense, words millions in the West would cheer?
Perhaps we will indeed hear this emanating from the White House once Donald Trump is elected President.
I can hardly wait.
