Will Canadian taxpayers “underwrite” Bombardier deal with Iranian Mullahs?

Brian LilleyArchive

Will Canadian taxpayers soon be underwriting the Mullahs in Tehran? It could easily happen.

Canada is re-establishing diplomatic ties with Iran and a main reason for the push according to Justin Trudeau's Liberal government is to help Canadian business. A recent story in the Tehran Times details how Bombardier is over in the Iranian capital trying to sell the pariah state on some new planes.

While Bombardier's plan is all well and good, the reality is that it is often the Canadian government that finances these types of large purchases between Canadian companies and foreign governments.

Should the people of Canada underwrite a major purchase by the world's worst state sponsor of terrorism?

This is a done deal – just waiting for the timing to be right – optics matter

It is obvious that the Conservative party is completely owned by the pro-Israel lobby and it is time for Canada to grow up and stop playing these games when in fact Iran is not a threat to Canada and will not invade anyone.

This is all just lies by the chicken hawks who want more war and always want war and are just playing the game of fearmongering people.

Canada should have its own independent foreign policy, so that we can choose what we ourselves wish to do. I thought many on Rebel were libertarian conservatives. It does not sound very libertarian to be against doing business with nations. It sounds in fact quite authoritarian and interventionist to the point of wanting war at all costs with Iran.

And yet Rebel wants more wars with Iran on the taxpayer dime. More hypocrisy!

Sean Penson complained: “Rick Pleaniuk, Don’t be so bloody nitpicking”

I’ll forgive the misspelling of the name. Happens all the time from those who lack respect for others. I was merely pointing out the inconsistency of your assertion. Better you do some research before blurting out such trash!

So let me get this straight, we bail out bombardier with tax dollars from Alberta. Bombarider gives jets to iran, with the help the the federal govenment using tax dollars from Alberta.

Gee, that sounds fine to me, much better use of money from Alberta than lets say fighting fires.

Why not? Boeing and Airbus are selling planes to Iran why not Canada? We need the jobs! Taxpayers will not be underwriting these sales. The government will provide export financing only.

Sean bleated: “Why not? What has Iran ever done to Canada? Nothing! We should never have severed relations with this country in the first place.”

Actually, their embassy in Ottawa was caught red handed fomenting unrest in this country primarily through Iranian ex pats…………………..

Interesting picture of the Swiss Air aircraft. The aircraft is Canadian registered and owned by Bombardier. Built in 2013. Listed as an experimental so why the the Swiss Air livery?

What kind of deal that? The vendor in this case the taxpayers of Canada fronts the purchase price of the jets ? Did I hear that correctly? Who does that? That was rhetorical. Is this some kind of mechanism to justify the unwarranted bailout of Bombardier? See folks that money you lent those guys over at the skidoo shop is paying off for us already.

So basically your arguing against capitalism? Not to point out the obvious but if Canadian businesses want to do business with Iran, then its their call. Not to mention that Canadian businesses also do business with other state sponsors of terrorism (Russia, Arab gulf states like Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Pakistan, China).

More of Peter Pan the Second’s knee jerk policy. Whatever Harper did he does the opposite. Such a child. And Canadians voted him in. What a sad commentary. “Professing to be wise they became fools”.
