Another day, another green energy fiasco in Ontario.
In 2016, the Wynne Liberals announced plans to spend $20M on a network of 500 electric vehicle charging stations across the province, ostensibly for infrastructure to “enable EV drivers to travel between and within cities,” boost electric car sales and, of course, “fight climate change.”
Sheila Gunn Reid brought us the story of various federal government departments spending millions on barely used electric car charging stations. They managed to get those chargers up and running even if no one was using them.
In Ontario however, there’s no reliable, affordable network of charging stations since just over half the charging stations have actually been built.
And most of those are concentrated in downtown Toronto and the GTA — an area that is already saturated.
But it gets worse with users complaining about outdated software, machines that are often broken and overpriced and the company running these chargers delivering poor customer service.
Yet again when it comes to the green file, an unapologetic, unaccountable and incompetent government, over-promises and under-delivers.
