Right wing commentators and alternative investigative media outlets are in YouTube's sights.
After YouTube recently announced a new policy to suppress and demonetize "controversial" videos, The Rebel is taking matters into our own hands.
We're hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
We're building an app. That application will host both our free content as well as our subscription paywall shows. However, while our app is going to be world class, it isn't going to be cheap.
Developing the app is going to cost us $120,000.
To integrate it with our video hosting system, and with our payment system, that’s another $19,000.
And once we get up and running, we estimate that’s going to cost $90,000 to build the video player that runs the videos in the app.
To move our 6,500 videos over from YouTube to the app costs about $13,000.
And we have to upgrade our existing TV apps for Roku and Apple TV — that’s $20,000.
Plus $40,000 to upgrade our computer software and servers at our headquarters, to make all of this work.
$302,000: That’s what it costs to make your own conservative alternative to YouTube.
That’s a lot of money. But we're confident we can do it— with our audience and for our audience.
